  1. Why do professionals like ML keep his free arm near his body?

Discus throwers are taught to first swing the free arm around wide and then tuck it forcefully back into the side to accelerate the turn and stretch the chest muscles to fire the throwing arm faster. But of course table tennis is a lot more about control than just max power compared to...
  2. Idea for training serve receive

Great post. My drill was more a suggestion for adult beginners or preteen kids learning to do basic dealing with spin serves. Obviously it gets a lot more nuanced and complicated at higher levels where you not only face all kinds of spin mixes but also a varied amount of spin.
  3. Idea for training serve receive

Basically learning to "mirror" the opponents bat angle based on his contact point with the ball?
  4. Idea for training serve receive

Isn't the sidespin brushed at the bottom actually more bullet spin (rotation axis horizontal and more back to front) than side spin (more vertical north to south axis)? Kinda like an american football is rotating?
  5. Idea for training serve receive

You could use a cheap pre-made Walmart style of bat:) Why is back or top harder to read than side spin? Doesn't the same principle apply (against underspin you try to hit the bottom below the ball and topspin hit more the top of the ball)?
  6. Idea for training serve receive

You could also do it at home, putting a ball on your desk while watching serve videos:). Maybe slow motion first and then real speed.
  7. Idea for training serve receive

I recently got an idea on how to practice serve receive and read spin. You need two basketballs or medicine balls, one is put on the servers side and one is put on the receivers table. I learned you always need to touch the same side of the ball as the receiver does, so when the "server"...
  8. Help to make a racket for control/All-round

Yeah, more body moves to coordinate with the turn of the waist and trunk plus the weight shift compared to BH where you can play it decently just using the forearm and wrist.
  9. Help to make a racket for control/All-round

Sanwei m8 is very Controlled and light. It is discontinued but still plenty of them on aliexpress.
  10. Advice please: 7-ply all-wood blade for my son

I think yinhe blades are nice but compared to Brands like stiga, yasaka etc the price advantage is not big when talking about all wood blades, it is basically 20-30 for yinhe and 40-60 for the all wood Brand blades. By percentage that is a big difference but considering you don't need a new...
  11. I need help with technique: FH loop / top-spin against short backspin ball.

I made up the term:). I would say it is a normal loop but you have to avoid hitting the table and get really close. I read somewhere that at the high level a long push is getting en vogue again. Like in china it was always a no-no to ever push long but now with the plastic ball some prefer to...
  12. I need help with technique: FH loop / top-spin against short backspin ball.

T I think at low levels often the best option is to do a long push against short and half long balls and then attack the next push which likely will be long. Doing a "scrape" loop off the end or a chiquita can certainly be done but it takes a lot of practice to be good at it but pushing it until...
  13. Indication about topsheet and sponge.

I think donic bluegrip s2 is the softest hybrid rubber. It has ESN 42.5 degrees (maybe like 34-35 in chinese scale?). There also is the S1 rubber which is a bit harder at around 47 or so.
  14. Spin theory

If the theory is right wouldn't that mean loop against backspin has more spin than loop against topspin or block?
  15. Help choosing blade!

Look at this thread maybe. https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/topics/sanwei-echo-and-parla-review-2023-new-all-wood-table-tennis-blades.31828/ Echo is 5 ply and around 75 grams. A bit heavier at around 80 would for example be yasaka sweden extra.
  16. Help choosing blade!

Sanwei has round handles I like for RBP. Sanwei m8 is very cheap and light all wood blade. I think it is discontinued now but you still get it on aliexpress. Or the new sanwei echo.
  17. T-Blades- homemade

    Nice work.
  18. Good Red/Coloured chinese-style rubbers

I think the Red color thing is a myth from the past. Maybe it was like that 30 years ago but I don't think it is true anymore. However pro players tend to be highly superstitious and if they have done something and had success with it they will stick with it.
  19. Contact point on ball

Is 3 o'clock the back of the ball and 12 the top of the ball?
  20. Contact point on ball

Wouldn't that depend on the incoming spin? Counter loop you hit more the top of the ball and loop against backspin you hit more the back of the ball.
