  1. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

Pistej got called on his serve and got upset and then told Harimoto to be quiet (according to the commentators).
  2. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

Ok. So, let me say it again. His behaviour is annoying and should NOT be condoned. It would definitely be good if he stopped. I'm not "explaining it away". But some people are getting so upset about it that I feel it's important to understand that he's a kid and does not mean to be...
  3. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

Apologetics? No, it's seeing things for what they are. If you read my posts you ought to realize I'm not justifying his behaviour. Just showing to you that there are plenty of other things that he does which people regard as respectful. And his skill can be appreciated despite this, especially...
  4. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

It is annoying, as I've already said but I would argue that he doesn't intend to be disrespectful and that you are reading this into his behaviour. As far as I'm aware multiple top players, coaches and a Japanese woman I play with find him very respectful. There's a game he plays where his...
  5. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

But there are plenty of adults that do scream like that and that's horrible too - and no I'm not asking you to look past it. I never said that. His skill can be respected without condoning his screaming, which is what I'm saying.
  6. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

Yes it is off putting I agree, and I don't like it or approve of it at all! I am the complete opposite personally and try to adopt Niwas strategy. But if you're a pro player or want to be a pro player and you're losing because of his choing, then that's something you'll have to adapt to as long...
  7. World Table Tennis Championships 2017

It's amazing that just a 13 year old can reach this level. In what other sport could we see a 13 year old beat the nr 4 in the world or a similar accomplishment? Snooker maybe? Absolutely amazing. I find it strange that so many people dislike him just for his choing and can't seem to see past that.
  8. TTD Competition - World Championships 2017!

Men's singles: Ma Long Women's singles: Liu Shiwen

I know there's a lot of emphasis on deception but I personally think loading the ball with spin is more important (if you can then deal with the spin of the return etc). Up to a certain level, even if they know what spin is on the ball, it's sometimes so heavy that they can't deal with it (which...
  10. Just another blade thread

It's gonna be a difficult decision. Been particularly looking at innerforce alc at the moment. And yes I'm using 05 on FH and andro hexer which I got from NL at christmas on BH. I will be changing it to T80 in the future though as I'm finding it a bit slow, similar to the barracuda. I spin...
  11. Just another blade thread

Excellent reply, thank you NL! What you say makes perfect sense. In terms of looping I'm pretty sure mostly any carbon blade will be okay for me. I'm not particularly looking to change for more power as I get good power and spin even away from the table with the acoustic (plus it forces me to...
  12. Just another blade thread

Good point, I guess I'd already ruled it out because 1. I've tried it a few times and didn't particularly like it, I definitely preferred the viscaria to it and 2. Because I want something a bit more different. When I changed to the acoustic it took some time to adjust but I also learned so much...
  13. Just another blade thread

Hey guys, so about a year and a half ago I posted this thread https://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?11608-Looking-for-a-new-faster-blade and I'd like to thank everyone who posted in it, especially Carl who not only gave me some great info but also for inspiring me to do more...
  14. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I would love for a translation of this video.. ;)
  15. Interview inside Ma Long's bedroom!

He seems like a really cool guy and it's pretty cool all CNT members seem to be quite different in terms of personality, yet they're still so good at the sport. It's nice to appreciate the different nuances of all of the players, I think it's more fun that way than if all of them were exactly...
  16. Pay your respect to Carl!

I'm so sorry Carl, I can't imagine how you're feeling. I hope you can stay strong during this tough time. You're a great contributor to TTD and no doubt a great husband and father. All the best to you and your child.
  17. Jab/Shovel Service video

I used to do this serve by punching into it using pretty much no wrist and it has been effective for me.. but then I met Craig Bryant a few weeks ago and asked him to do 10 minutes of serving with me and he had a look at my serve. The way he does it and the way the japanese guy is doing it is by...
  18. Outrageous chopping skills by Stephane Ouaiche!

It's probably not "good". But.. and I'm gonna copy paste a comment I saw on fb by Eli Baraty as a response to another about the chop costing him the point etc. "Yes.. but I think we often forget why we play sport! We all start playing a particular sport because we enjoy or love it, Stephane...
  19. shoes good for foot bouncing ?

Ah, apologies I didn't mean to lecture you. Instead I got a very neat lecture haha. I wasn't aware that more exposure to the cold gave you better ability to produce heat. Good stuff and eloquent enough ;).
  20. shoes good for foot bouncing ?

Bit off-topic but you don't catch a cold from being cold, you catch them from a cold virus and you can't kill viruses with pills. Agreed on the shoes though, prefer not too much cushioning unless you have knee problems I was told, then you might want to consider a bit of cushioning :).
