  1. Anywhere to Play in Florida?! within 30 minutes of panama city?

there is nothing, so sad. Any basement players?
  2. Should serve safely or try to serve a surprise to win deuce game?

I always found that if I get a serve that an opponent pops up or reads poorly, I no longer use that serve unless it's close to the end and I'm in need of a point. Varying the serves placement and speed throughout the game is the best option for levels 1700-2000ish. If you have enough variation...
  3. What Streches do you us for Tabletennis?

I'll make one tonight (maybe) I never remember to bring my camera anywhere but always remember my tripod. imagine your arms out like you're pretending to be an airplane but with your palm facing forward. Now use your forearm and close it all the way. If you do it in slow motion fingertips start...
  4. Anywhere to Play in Florida?! within 30 minutes of panama city?

Saturday is my flight out and my old thread never got any responses so here's my second attempt. At first my thread was just saying panama city and not florida so I'm hoping there was just some confusion on the location I was asking about. I would love to hit with or play with ANYONE while I'm...
  5. What Streches do you us for Tabletennis?

About a month ago I noticed before my coach would start hitting she would snap her forearm over and over, not like she was practicing a stroke but holding her arm in a fist, back side of her hand facing behind her and arm angled like she was flexing a bicep muscle. And she would just go about...
  6. Why so few twiddlers?

I recently asked my coach, who is a penholder at her prime, why she recommends students start as shakehander's if they're brand new when she herself played penhold professionally. She says because it's more difficult to learn the back side of the of the paddle and with how the game is now you...

  8. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

Serves are the only thing that seem to need to be adjusted a bit. The game is virtually unchanged at the level of us lowly american players. I'm sure it will affect the top level to some degree, but they'll adapt. They aren't just going to decide, "well this was fun being on top for a little...

    Mizutani please :)
  10. Trainerbot - The ultimate training robot?

    tempted to back this project....
  11. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

But it seems you've jumped to a conclusion that it will drastically change the game. I understand what my clubmates found as a pleasant change the pro's may not. But I'm not seeing why everyone is saying that the change would be so bad if nobody's had any experience or has any idea of what it...
  12. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

It won't be a drastic alteration. When we raised the net we did 1cm at first but realized it was a LOT less than we though and then raised it a bit more. After today, I'm actually pretty hopeful for the change. The atmosphere at our club hasn't been as enjoyable as it was tonight in quite a while.
  13. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

So tonight we raised our nets a bit, actually over 1cm just to see how it would affect our play. Now I'm not a great player but some of the others at the club are quite strong. 1950-2250 USATT range. Practice and hitting around went as normal for everybody, but when the games started the change...
  14. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

Yes really. If players don't want to adapt to a change that has been made they have two choices, either quit playing or suck it up. Changing the ball again isn't an option for them. If you think the outrage is bad now, could you imagine the outrage they would face after changing the ball to...
  15. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

You realize the majority of people on this forum that are active play in competitions. The competitions are held by various table tennis clubs and making them throw out their 12 ittf aproved tables at 1000 dollars a piece to buy new ones is and insane idea. Doing so with the net is also insane...
  16. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

How will a higher net reduce spin? you need more spin to get it over now if you want decent pace. And serving long would happen less with a higher net since you can't serve long and fast with it higher. Serving long would become suicide. This hurts flat hitting players more than spinny players...
  17. Can you help me?

There have been quite a few times, probably once or twice per match, that I give some nonsense serves. I'll initiate my nonsense by first walking toward my forehand side and puting as much sidespin as possible down the line. For some reason there's an aspect of this serve that makes people...
  18. Same rubber on both sides for offensive players

This definitely crossed my mind, but then I also remembered that I shouldn't have gotten T05 and I just had an impulse buy. After spending 150$ on rubber I'm going to use it. My ej syndrome was dormant for more than half a year. Can't beat this disease :/
  19. Can you help me?

Wish I could have met a few more players that actually use the serve. I've met a few and it's great but I haven't met anyone that could vary it much. Probably because it's not known to be an easy serve, and learning to vary a serve that already isn't easy feels like that time could be spent on...
  20. Proposed Increase in Net Height!

Most american's I run into have no idea that table tennis can be a competitive thing here. Occasionally there will be some special on tv where table tennis is on, but then they simply see chinese dominance and they think it's an asian sport. They'll never really understand much of what actually...
