  1. Tearing my hair out with OX rubber

Having real trouble trying to fix textile backed OX short pimple rubber to my blade. The water based glue that I use for normal sponge rubbers doesn't seem to hold; the rubbers just curl up at the edges. I've now ruined a rubber because all the glue won't come off the back so that I can start...
  2. Hardbat set up (UK)

I'm not entering any official hardbat tournaments but we do have an end of season competition in my local table tennis league and I'd quite like my own racket and to maybe even play a couple of my normal league matches with the hardbat set up (so rubbers would need to be ittf approved). Does...
  3. Blade advice please!

Thanks for the input guys. I received my ma long blade today in the post. It weighs 72g pre varnish so I'm guessing that will go up by a few g's once I've put a couple of coats on. I've already ordered the beat rubber but have not ordered a new grip for the FH. I already have a grip rubber from...
  4. Blade advice please!

I'm switching from a LP's (BH) on a 70g combo blade, so I'm used to a relatively light set-up. This is why I'm trying to keep the weight down with the blade. I'm aiming to keep the total bat weight under 175g which gives me about 50g per cut rubber to play with...I think I'll try the ma long blade
  5. Blade advice please!

I'm setting up an offensive/attacking racket. I've decided on my rubbers (rasant beat 2.1 on BH, and rasant grip 2.1 on FH) but I'm torn between the andro temper tech off and the DHS ma long light off blades. I want a lightweight blade and the andro comes in at 80g, the DHS at 70g. Would the...
  6. Switching from LP's to inverted (chopping)

What Aida aid to Nuke Skywalker is pretty much in line with what I was thinking regarding switching from LP's to inverted; just to give a bit more attacking options on the BH. But having said that, Aida does seem to miss a fair few of the inverted chops, so maybe the chopping ability is sacrificed.
  7. Switching from LP's to inverted (chopping)

Yes, I'm in the process of learning to twiddle with my LP's...but was just thinking that if I can chop with an inverted then I'd be better off moving away from LP's. At the moment I only use the LP's for chopping and looping/hitting balls that come to me as backspin...but if I could do that with...
  8. Switching from LP's to inverted (chopping)

No, I'm actually trying to explore a more attacking game and figured that an inverted rubber that could chop would give me more options to attack with the BH than a LP...but I still want to be able to chop and defend with the BH hence my looking for an inverted with defence capabilities rather...
  9. Switching from LP's to inverted (chopping)

I currently used Curl P-4 Chop long pimple on the backhand. I'm considering switching to an inverted chopping rubber like tackiness chop 2. How similar is chopping with one of these rubbers compared to chopping with an LP?
  10. Why so few twiddlers?

Thanks for all the responses. In recent years there seems to be a trend towards slowing the game down (speed glue ban, larger ball, and potentially raising the height of the net) so perhaps there will be a return towards twiddling and more defensive play at some point in the future?
  11. Why so few twiddlers?

Clearly having two different types of rubbers on your blade and being able to twiddle increases the range of shots that a player can make...so why hasn't elite table tennis evolved into a twiddling game where there's one attacking rubber and one defensive rubber? Clearly this hasn't happened...
  12. Looping with LP's

Im sorry but I don't follow your reasoning. If I've found a particular brand of LP rubber that is grippy enough to allow me to loop with it, then why is it a bad idea to add that shot to my game-play arsenal? Why limit myself to chops and blocks with the LP if I'm able to do more with...
  13. Looping with LP's

When I loop with my LP's the shot behaves quite similar to a loop with inverted rubber, it arcs over the net like you'd expect from a top spin loop so it's definitely changing their topspin into my topspin (as opposed to just killing their topsin or amplifying their topspin as my backspin) ...
  14. Looping with LP's

so you think the looping would get better with a thicker sponge rather than thinner?
  15. Looping with LP's

Just to clarify, I already loop with my LP's. Curl p-4 is not to bad at generating spin so it can play like an inverted rubber better than most LP's. My question is not about whether you can loop with a LP, it's about whether the looping capabilities would get better or worse if I changed the...
  16. Looping with LP's

With LP's, are you better of going for a thicker sponge or a thinner sponge if you're looking to loop as well as chop? I'm thinking that a thicker sponge would allow the ball to sink in a bit in order to enhance grip, but at the same time it would also reduce the chances of the pips bending in...
  17. BH rubber recommendations?

I'm looking to move away from LP rubber on my BH. I mainly used the LP for chopping and blocking, but I want something that can also be a bit more aggressive and loop as well as chop & block. Can anyone suggest an alternative to the LP that I'm using at the moment (which is TSP Curl P4)? Should...
  18. Should I move away from LP's?

Yes, short pimples might be an option worth a try. Thanks!
  19. Should I move away from LP's?

I just want to bet better want to get better at table tennis, so I'm happy to change my game if it gives me more variety and options. Twiddling is something I could work on, but would I ever need a LP for a FH shot? So twiddling just seems a bit like I'm just trying to compensate for the LP that...
