  1. Recommend me a new LP rubber.

I'm currently using Giant Dragon Meteorite (0.5mm sponge in red) on my BH. I play a modern defensive sort of game and am getting on well with the rubber, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an upgrade: I'm thinking I'd like something that has the potential to be a tad more aggressive...
  2. Super Ghost Serve by Japanese player!

Why would you not serve like that during match-play if you can perform the serve? It looks pretty much unreturnable so why not use it?
  3. General dislike of LP's?

By why is the "Wobbling effect" of LP's wrong whereas the "enhanced spin effect" provided by inverted rubbers OK? Both are just effects on the ball, and both are only recognisable effects relative to the effect that the other rubber type has on the ball. So on what rational basis is it argued...
  4. General dislike of LP's?

Both! The way I look at it, there's quite a wide range or approved TT rubbers that all have different playing characteristics (and that's true both across different rubber types, but also to a lesser degree within different rubber type categories!) and there's also a wide range of differing...
  5. General dislike of LP's?

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that type of criticism. All the different types of rubbers have their own playing characteristics, and even players that only play with inverted will choose a different rubber and different sponge thickness etc to make the ball behave differently...and will then...
  6. General dislike of LP's?

Am I just imagining it, or is their a general dislike of LP players at the lower levels of table tennis? I play in the league of a relatively small UK city. It sometimes feels like I get frowns from other players when they find out I'm using a long pimple rubber on my back hand. Rather than...
  7. Preferences - Sponge thickness vs hardness

Currently playing with 1.5mm soft sponge on the FH and a long pips on the back hand that has 0.5mm sponge...but not sure if that sponge is hard, medium, or soft...and not even sure it would make any difference considering it's so thin and on a LP to begin with.
  8. Share your Racket's Photo

Interesting that I see a couple of people have fixed their rubbers so that they don't cover the blade all the way down to the handle...is this done to cut down on the weight of the racket by reducing the weight of the rubber that's attached?
  9. me playing

I agree with the above. It's not so much that you're throwing the ball too high, it more that you're contacting with the ball whilst it's too high. This means you're hitting downwards at quite a steep angle and the ball bounces upwards at the same angle.
  10. What's the difference...

    Thanks for or your help!
  11. What's the difference...

Between Kokutaku Blutenkirsche 868 Japan Sponge and Kokutaku Tule 007 Japan? I'm deliberating between the two and they seem to be identical apart from the name. Customtabletennis.co.uk even uses identical wording in its review of them both: "Kokutaku 868 rubber with a Special Soft 38 Degree...
  12. Kanter ALL+ and Temper Tech ALL+

Thanks for the reply. Could you drill some holes into the head of the blade to reduce the head weight? not sure if that would be illegal, but a dozen 5mm holes around the rim of the head would help balance it out a bit.
  13. Technique reverting to pre-lesson standard. Why?

From my own experience, I've found that when playing matches (even just a match during a trading knock-up), I play to win and therefore don't necessarily try shots or technique that I'm weaker at...because I'm prioritising winning the point rather than practicing a stroke or footwork etc...
  14. Looking for a sticky defensive rubber for BH

can anyone offer any suggestions, ideally something that comes with a softer sponge 1.0 - 1.2 mm. Giant Dragon Submarine looks interesting, but does that qualify as sticky?
  15. What should be in the table tennis fitting centre?

not sure if it would qualify as a fitting centre, but I'd certainly like to be able to turn up at a table tennis "supermarket" and just get a chance to hold all the blades that I'm thinking about trying out.
  16. Query on Serving Rules

That does leave some room for subjectivity...and it also leaves room for creating an arc that would result in the ball finally being struck a couple of feet away from where it was initially thrown provided that the ball is thrown high enough when thrown "near vertically".
  17. Query on Serving Rules

Yes, I play local league level and I would say that 50% of the serves I see are technically illegal - mainly because the ball tends not to travel upwards 6 inches...but I tend to throw 3-4 feet upwards when I serve so hence my question about throwing more of a deliberate arc to add an extra...
  18. Query on Serving Rules

When serving, does the ball have to be thrown straight upwards such that it falls straight down? just wondering if the ball can be thrown in such a way that it's flight path is more of an arc- shape so that contact with the ball can be made in a different position relative to the table to where...
  19. Kanter ALL+ and Temper Tech ALL+

The Dr Neubauer Firewall Plus looks the closest fit for what I'm looking for...and it's nice and light as well. But the blade is a whopping 10mm thick! My current blades are 4-5mm thick so I'm not sure I could get my head around playing with a bat that had twice the thickness.
