  1. How to play against Lefties?

Play against him more and more, the problem is universal. The biggest thing is that the tactics he uses against you will tend to work against him. The most common area of weakness is the very wide forehand of both players, lefties are just more adept at finding it because they play many more...
  2. Sun Yang looks crazy good

Youth and the defender's curse. The game is too fast now for you to be floating balls to your opponent and hope they miss.

FZD is hard to beat, headband or no headband.
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

A lot of table tennis is invisible (mental) so while you see the players hitting the ball, you don't see their anticipation and preparation as much. The anticipation and preparation is the biggest thing that distinguishes the levels of well trained players and is why it is very hard to...

The point is true for Franziska as well. The Chinese are usually confident that if they get the short push in, they get the first attack. Xu Xin was surprised that Franziska could re-drop the short push. And of course, his over the table openers are legendary. One of my high level coach...

. She tightened up over the last few points, don't think stability had as much to do with it as that the risks she took didn't pan out. The only point I really faulted her for in that stretch was not pivoting on the Wang Yidi long serve, but that might just have been that she misjudged the length.
  9. Rubber advice for the dark side

Many people who play with dark side rubbers don't have training partners. I was lucky to start my TT in Philadelphia area which had a lot of pips players and coach who despite not being a pips player had a lot of experience playing against them and could use them in training. So I learned that...

It can be called a focus on outliers for sure, but the question becomes who else has those outliers? When only one or two players have beaten the super Chinese, it is no longer juat a trivial fact. Lee Sang Su is also a WTTC bronze medalist (2017) so it isn't like he never won anything in his...

I think it is quite obvious that Xiang Peng had backhand issues and needed to work on his backhand play. This tournament is encouraging in that regard. He beat players that would previously have eaten hin alive in backhand to. Backhand matchups. We just have to see whether it lasts.

Can't rule it out for sure: peak LSS was at 2017 WTTC and he has always been streaky.
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

This can be true but is not necessarily true. Can heavy slow spin cause timing issues for some opponents? Especially if the ball is short and has to be taken over the table? The problem is that it is difficult to produce this ball consistently. Timo used to be able to do it with the older...

And LJH did get the job done so no regrets. If CDS had played better in singles, this would have been moot.
  19. WTT Champions Incheon 2025 - 1-6 Apr 2025

Harimoto did beat Wang Chuqin but never Xu Xin. He and Lin Yun Jun may be reasonably given a mild honorary status. But Boll never beat Xu Xin or Wang Chuqin as far as I know and obviously he never beat Fan though he came close on one occasion.
  20. WTT Champions Incheon 2025 - 1-6 Apr 2025

The only other person mon-Chinese who has beaten the trinity of Ma Long, Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong outside of Lee Sang Su is the "inferior" Franziska, whose status as an inferior to Moregardh has been affirmed by Zeio.
