  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Yes, and perhaps due to that reason, you shouldn't play all the way back off the table when playing a blocker who rarely loops at you. I've only ever played much, much worse blockers, but it has worked better for me to play close than far.

@Michal_Z I didn't notice you guys playing very much at all to the wide angles or to his elbow. Just into his sweetspots, and he is very stable there. You are better than me, so take that in mind. It's just what I noticed. An example of hustling would be to convince gullible table tennis...

If you haven't figured it out yet... The blocker is good. He has a loop too. I don't know what this talk about him "not really knowing how to play" is.
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@Michal_Z You do know you're being hustled, right?
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Drilled with my friend today. Apart from yesterday, haven't played in nearly a month, but I still got it. Worked on his pushes and his loop. He is capable of doing a nice, clean swing but often he has the urge to push into the ball. I'm working on very simple drills to get him used to swinging...
  6. Plastic ball vs Celluloid ball rubber wear..

It's okay, fais. It rubs me the wrong way too, when people talk about "shifting the mass". What exactly are you taking away and re-attaching somewhere else?
  7. Difference between rubbers

@yoass Now that's an interesting idea: manufacturers purposely producing different red and black sheets to reinforce this red vs black idea. I find it hard to believe how exactly it would boost sales in reality, but it is an interesting thought.
  8. Is XX working on his backhand?

So the idea is to just max out on the spin direction and angle of the shot and you should have time to recover and possibly just win the point there anyway? I didn't see XX get punished too much for stepping out wide like that, the few shots I remember were winners, so...
  9. Is XX working on his backhand?

No, I mean the degree of moving out towards his forehand that he does when backhand flicking balls to his forehand. His energy keeps travelling past the point to stop and do the stroke, leaving the backhand wing open.
  10. Is XX working on his backhand?

Is it just me or is he really opening himself up on the backhand flick? Why is that?
  11. Difference between rubbers

From what I've seen, it's not so much a case of "Make the product, then apply dye" as much as applying the dye as the product is being made. So I can understand why the color and characteristics might not be completely separate. The dye is part of the process of chemical reactions. Dyes are...
  12. What song are u listening to now?

There just isn't anything cooler than Guilty Gear.
  13. Difference between rubbers

Tony, I'm not sure if most table tennis players are high level enough to really tell the difference. :p
  14. Difference between rubbers

Oh, really? I've never heard of that. Is it really consensus that black sheet is tackier/spinnier/faster or whatnot?
  15. Difference between rubbers

Well, I'll keep in mind what you've said about it. Just remember that it could simply be placebo. Even if everyone says it, although unlikely.
  16. Difference between rubbers

Is this *really* true? I've heard it used to be true, but I'm not so sure now. I thought it was too, but people who know better seem to think it's not true. Ma Lin used red on FH last time I checked. I think the black on forehand is because there's simply no red topsheet blue sponge, or at...
  17. Help finding a good setup for an intermediate player

1000 USATT? 1000 is intermediate? You might do better with a beginner setup than a true intermediate setup if you have control issues as you say.
  18. Difference between rubbers

@yoass Those are entirely different rubbers. From what I know, this used to be a problem having to do with QC. Apparently it's not anymore.
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Perhaps, but these are some kind of stretchy, a bit unconventional shoes. I'm not sure if they're "running" shoes. They're not indoor shoes for all I know. It's better than what I had, so I'll keep it. But I will invest in proper shoes later. Actually, scratch all of that, I was thinking of...
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Played a bit today, first time in weeks. Took it easy, mostly demonstrating and drills. Worked on my friend's backhand. Tried to get him to understand what the whippy backhand motion really is. He's getting it, but it'll take time. He thinks too much, when really it's not so hard, it's just...
