  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I was thinking it's something like that, but I was watching some old training videos and compared to fresh out of the oven content and I noticed that he chooses to opt for a shorter stroke much more often. Perhaps as a response to the new ball?
  2. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Is it just me or has Ma Long's forehand stroke gotten shorter lately?
  3. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

If he keeps getting nets and whatnot constantly, it's because of his style, not just luck. Some styles just get more nets. Think about it, if someone loops fairly high over the net and lets the ball fall down into the table's area, they need to aim the ball very "low" on the table to hit the...
  4. Need help in serve receive

Better to be ready for the long serve and go in for the short serve than have the long serve take you by surprise, right?
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

If you can keep hustling him, keep hustling him. If he's not as good as you say. If he is actually good, wins a lot of bets and "doesn't even play", he might just be hustling you fools.
  6. Who has the world's best backhand?

I'm gonna take a risk here and say that Karakasevic might have a block as good, or better than Waldner.
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel @Baal I've seen threads in the thousands of pages on some forums, with hundred+ page threads littering the board. Servers have really improved during the last ten years or so.

Back was 95% healed, so the first thing I did was bike half an hour to a friend's to go shoot his rifles and bows. The light exercise probably put it back into place. Next week is perhaps tabletennis week, but I'll do a real warmup this time and try not to snap my shit up again...
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Played some TT yesterday.... and locked up my back and induced painful nerve pinch due to a bad stretch on a stroke. I was in bed for 12 hours and the worst is far over, now my upper middle back is a bit painful, but I have regained many degrees of neck movement and I can actually...
  10. Astounding discovery

It's difficult to pinpoint from text what someone is really talking about in things like this. From what I've been told and experienced, there's bad ways and good ways to have your racket angle open and close. The swing is pretty much straight anyway. I guess the video will tell.
  11. Astounding discovery

I hope you aren't "adjusting" the angle consciously. That would explain your shoulder injury.
  12. Astounding discovery

Completely open racket, horizontal rip? That sounds an awful lot like smashing to me.
  13. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

In every forum I've been in, there's been a general thread or something like this. So I thought it a bit weird there was not one when I came here: but I got beat to the punch of making it!
  14. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Post video of you playing here to get advice instead of starting a new thread, ask random questions here, talk about random TT things. Basically, nearly everything.
  15. Ma Long also trains in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Suga, it's hard to evaluate unarmed fighting techniques on a basis of effectiveness. Warfare has historically been based a hell of a lot more on armed fighting than unarmed. There's also the positive of armed combat, being that bad techniques have literally died out: their users have never...
  16. Ma Long also trains in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

@OldschoolPenholder Sadly, no. Doesn't really exist around here. I know a lot more about fighting with bladed weapons than the average person, but let's just say that, with my current lack of skills, it would be a matter of time before I gravely injured myself if I attempted to practice with a...
  17. Ma Long also trains in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

OSPH is on the right track IMO. Wing Chun trapping techniques are applicable to MMA rules, because it's a fundamental of close range combat to redirect attacks. Look at Historical European Martial Arts and all of the combat-ready techniques that involve redirecting blade/polearm/shield blows...
  18. Table Tennis University - Coach Tao Li

REVOLUTIONARY PROFESSIONAL 52 WEEKS !!!!!!! I don't see why you needed to compare me to gullible and vain people who'd buy into a marketing text like that. I guess I'm never going to knock the image I made for myself during my first years here.
  19. Ma Long also trains in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Why so? In an environment full of Thai boxers and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighters, a martial art that has lacking takedown defence and ground fighting capability seems like a weird pick.
  20. Lin Gaoyan's Style and the Poly Era

@Baal So it has a lot more to do with the coach's preference and habits than what one would think.
