Poor quarter pounder deluxe (QPD). Good thing I'm pretty certain the SPARTAN will be a better blade than the QPD. Side note: I used Kevlar in my blade for the challenge...I knew I needed to make you something relatively bullet-proof. 🤣

Thanks! The Kevlar fibers are running horizontally (and carbon fibers are running vertically, from handle to tip of blade).

It sounds like you want a lighter-colored outer ply - you mentioned Koto. I'd prefer to use something other than Koto when prioritizing "dwell". Do you enjoy the feel of Hinoki outer ply blades? (Note: I'm not using Hinoki, but I would like to use something with similar properties).

What do you think of the quarter pounder so far? It's got that redwood core that Carl has been eloquently describing in his EJ thread...but it also has my favorite medial ply (Spruce!).

That handle is phenomenal! I built a couple blades where I used end-grain on the handles, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet because of Coronavirus shutting down my only place to play. Do you think it will absorb sweat even more rapidly?

Sorry, my post was unclear. I meant that solid walnut handles (no laminations, no holes or hollowing, etc) don't seem to exist in commercial blades.

That makes a lot of sense - both in terms of moving that balance toward the head and modifying the feedback properties. Thanks for sharing! I have found that solid walnut handles provide a nicer, clearer vibration when compared to softer woods and laminated handles that most manufacturers use...

Are there any big differences you notice between how the two different core woods play (Port Orford Cedar vs Sitka Spruce)?
