Assuming they've only modified the sponge, not the top-sheet as well, then you're right. Manufacturers are required to send the ITTF rubbers including sponge, but I'm not sure what the ITTF looks at in order to give approval. Of course if there's any truth to the rumours that Igor keeps...

It is a great blade, not sure if it's still made though. I used this blade for several years, also with Dtecs OX on the backhand like the OP. It's not a slow blade though, probably not far of the speed of the Diode V. Eventually I gave it up because it was a little too fast for blocking with OX...

Yes I think what you're saying makes sense, but I also feel it's going to be a lot less stable in your hands for regular strokes. A long handle piece gives you a lot of stability in the hand, and also a lot of feedback through vibration. I'm not knocking this new design, and no doubt it can have...

JUIC (Japanese manufacturer) made a bamboo blade, called the JUIC Bamboo Shot, which was a very nice blade. That doesn't mean it's legal of course, but it's doubtful anyone would do anything about it.

Are you using the short pimples shown in your profile (Meteor 845)? Nothing wrong with that, but pimple rubbers are much harder to spin with. Did your coach recommend this? Otherwise it just comes down to practice... we all go through this stage.

Depends on your rubber and how well you look after it too. We have a fast attacking jpen player at our club who uses T05, he changes once a year. Use protection sheets and you'll get more life out of most rubbers.

Kiso Hinoki gives exactly that feeling that the bat is holding the ball for longer, quite a few blades use it.

I get your point, but spin actually plays quite a role in hardbat, it just takes a lot more effort to generate significant spin.
