  4. China Open 2018

great post ! I did not know this but when I was watching the only thing that was really intriguing to me was that Calderano could not simply find his body / pocket ! I will have to now find that match with LGL's commentary ...
  5. Problem Reverse Pendulum (to the forehand with backspin) - low spin and too high

IMO this is a very subjective question .. depends on the quality of your service and the level of your opponent .. however again in my experience this is one of the more flippable serves if you can't keep it low and spinny / deceptively changing the spin .... in a standard righty to righty ...
  6. Problem Reverse Pendulum (to the forehand with backspin) - low spin and too high

I think whatever can be told technically has already been told by the forum members above and the video Illia provided is one of the good ones out there ... only thing I can add is soft hands and more wrist action , may be you are hardening your hand too early our using too much forearm ...

  8. Zhang Jike or Tomokazu Harimoto... Who you picking?

I would like Zhang Jike to win , but if I were a betting man I would bet on Tomokazu
  9. China Open 2018

Not sandbagging , I know ZJK was impressive against Aruna Quadri ... but you have to agree it was pitting strength vs weakness , ZJK's BH vs Quadri's BH ... with Harimoto it will be different ... thats why I was focusing on matchup
  10. China Open 2018

Yes, this is the question thats been bugging me .. how does the match up work ... FZD has gone on record praising Harimoto's backhand , Harimoto is known to blow people out with his speed and off the bounce technique. Zhang Jike prefers to let the ball fall , and put his own spin on it . From...
  11. Forehand topspin feedback wanted and general feedback is most welcome

Yes the elbow is too far away from the body .. will not let you learn about the forearm snap ... for now keep it close with a fists distance from your body and then snap the forearm ... especially when you are close to the table .. a step away .. add more rotation and weight transfer but the arm...
  12. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Okay got it ... I remember we had a person from an European country ( can't remember which one ) who had joined one of the summer camps I attended and he told us that for some reason penhold was not allowed in serious leagues in his country ... I thought it was one such weird situation ...
  13. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

    Because they don't allow penhold grip ? why ? .. .just curious .. .
  14. Forehand topspin feedback wanted and general feedback is most welcome

The biggest thing I see missing is the skip step before serve receive , after serving , and between shots. Your friend seems to be doing it and you should ask him for some tips to improve the footwork. On the specific forehand shot , I personally feel that the current stroke is too big ... its...
  15. Doubles underappreciated?

Agreed , there is less focus ... its thrilling to watch and is a great underutilized tool that can be used to make table tennis popular ...
  16. Service grip

If you are looking for free help in the forum , the only effective way is to do what david said earlier. Any other way is not worth it . If you don't like exposure and want to keep things private, you need to take private lessons , online or otherwise. Table tennis daily has a coaching service...
  17. Hong Kong Open 2018

Lets just hope she continues to develop here forehand in the years to come and not depend on the slaps all the time .. we have to admit that the consistency of those slaps have increased by leaps and bounds in recent years and thats the reason we are here ... I have hope because she always...
  18. Hong Kong Open 2018

I disagree , its just sensationalism .. just because a bunch of Japanese TV channels are doing it does not make it right ... Fukuhara , etc are table tennis players , they are not reality tv stars .... its just that the media knows how fans crave to see moments that seems to humanize their idols...
  19. Hong Kong Open 2018

I understand what you are saying, closing off a match or a game when leading is one of the most difficult things to do mentally , after all she was leading 3-1 and then lost it from there. However, on the other side most people play better when they are down , also you want to take into account...
  20. Hong Kong Open 2018

I disagree, mentally Mima Ito right now how is the strongest player outside of CNT and she is not scared of them otherwise she would not have beated LSW in a worldchampionship . Its just that her high risk style has inherent disadvantages. Just because somebody is crying backstage does not mean...
