  1. Looping with thinner sponges

Spin comes more from the rubber and not the sponge? What's your basis for that claim?

Today I had the perfect around the net moment. The ball was slow and out wide to my forehand, it was dropping low and I'd been practicing the shot for the past week. I lined it up with my footwork, swung into the ball with a lot of hook and a big whippy stroke... ...and hit it right on...

Up until a month or two ago, I wouldn't have understood the spin in your shots. That really looks like a lot of spin for what kind of short movement you're making.
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Buying into the whole "More spin, less speed" thing that's being thrown around here has at least allowed me to vary my loop at three speeds nowadays. Placement is still pretty static, with slower balls being more short. I play with the same players everyday, and their spin level is not usually...
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Hah, maybe. I've taken a real liking to trickshots and strange, very whippy strokes. Wholly ineffective in a real situation right now: but really fun to try. I'm trying to learn Maze's strange backhand shot, I'm not sure what to call it. Comparing me to Jun or Michael probably isn't...

What is everyone's favorite shot to perform in table tennis? Not your point winner, not your most effective shot: your favorite shot. It'd have to be lobbing and blocking against opponents who hit very hard. Perhaps with an edge to lobbing. Whenever I get to play in a space with a high roof...

What's so scary about Der_'s nose?
  8. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I think I've got a bit more self-aware of how my body is being used in my swings. Often I find myself not rotating enough, or rotating at a wrong timing. I'm pretty sure it's not just because I'm doing more incorrect strokes.
  9. From allwood to carbon

I think the point in using allwood blades to feel the ball is so that you can recognize the difference between a bad shot and a good shot as a developing player. As someone who doesn't have much "feeling in the hand".
  10. How long/often do we practice?

On average I'd say 1.5 - 2 hours a day, 5 times a week. Rarely we play more, up to 4 hours sometimes. Rarely. Sometimes, VERY rarely, I play under 1.5 hours. So I'd say say average 8 - 10 hours per week everything considered.
  11. How long/often do we practice?

Honestly, as long as there are people to play I'll be practicing. I'm not sure I've ever left a session before my usual partners, except recently because my arm was too messed up to play.
  12. VIDEO: Me and my team mate in a tournament at the weekend.

I'm only a low unranked beginner myself, so I can't say much, but I also sustained some arm and shoulder injuries recently. I've got so fed-up with even the idea of a technique-induced injury, so my main focus is better arm mechanics, and especially using more body instead of arm. It's really...
  13. VIDEO: Me and my team mate in a tournament at the weekend.

You did a pretty good job attacking the weaker spins, and you got back some of his good topspins. The serve at 4:18 was so good that I knew a 3rd ball is coming before he even touched it. Good stuff. I can't give any advice, but those are some good things I noticed. Do post more videos.

Quality hasn't increased a lot I think, but I have more consistency in producing acceptable quality serves. They're a bit lower and spinnier more consistently, instead of varying as much. Before the drills, it was a bit of a coin toss when I served low, heavy backspin, but now I can feel it...
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Just simple brushing exercises, like floor and bed serves, and the backspin pancake drill that Shuki showed us some time back. I just hadn't done any real serves on a table.
  16. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Got back to playing today. I haven't seen a TT table in nearly three weeks and after a few warmup serves, I think my serves actually improved from before I went on my holidays. I guess it makes sense because I did exercises for ball control and touch during the break.
  17. How reliable is table tennis 11 and mega spin?

I bought my current setup, some balls and glue from TT11. Got the free delivery, it came in 2 days IIRC and the products were genuine, all there and came unharmed.

If we take it literally and always move the shoulders first before moving the legs, won't it be possible to overdo it sometimes and compromise movement?
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

How much can that "turning shoulders before moving to ball" be applied generally? It sounds like it could be done very wrong: but I haven't tried it!
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

When my arm was at it's worst a few weeks ago and I couldn't do any kind of stroke without pain, I played left handed. It's a good learning experience, and you improve so much so fast!
