  1. Help what happened?/

@UpSideDownCarl That's a good post, but it's wasted effort. For all we know this guy can play really well and he's just seeing how we treat absolutely clueless people. Don't reply to shitposters and obvious bait unless you don't have anything better to do or your hope in humanity is high...
  2. Help what happened?/

Phew, I'm so glad this wasn't real. You never know around here.
  3. Help what happened?/

Look, he's ****ing with you. He's probably been playing for more than two weeks. The basic gist is not that difficult to grasp, but just wait until you start getting heavy, fast serves or good spin variation your way. Table tennis is a very hard game. Don't get cocky. You'll keep...
  4. Question on Biomechanics of the FH Loop

This is what I've figured, too. Very often a brush shot appears to be better. However, on some balls, like no-spin balls, I feel that a harder, flatter contact is actually better.
  5. Help what happened?/

Yeah, Vrael is right. We need to remember that he does know how to serve by throwing the ball in the air properly and knows how to serve at least somewhat respectable topspin, so that's a start. I'm sure he can probably 11-0 you for hours. I don't think he is trying too hard if he noticed that...
  6. Help what happened?/

He was probably serving topspin. You need to angle your racket down, because the topspin will make the ball bounce upwards from the surface it hits. You also need to push into the ball a bit: if you just let your bat sit there, you'll eat the spin. I hope you don't have too much lunch money.

Some time ago, NL posted about Brett Clarke hearing a player talk about equipment when serving, and Brett went and served backspin with his bare hand and it came back heavy and into the net. That opened my eyes a bit about what's important in generating spin.
  8. Micro Adjustment

I don't know how much of the video is legit, but don't you think that there's a high chance that pros do a lot of special things subconsciously, so small that you might not even see them?
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Well, it's true, isn't it? LGL can get easily 4x or more the spin I can get, with pips! It's quite insane actually, if you've ever seen video or seen in person a professional's serve spinning in a basket or a cup or something.
  10. Your first setup, Or where did it all go wrong?

Started playing on a completely rubbish premade setup, ALL- maybe ALL at best. Tried some better low-mid end stuff, too, but didn't really have the ability to see much a difference other than it was faster. For years now, I've not been an idiot about equipment of any kind and I like to do my...

I wish. Ma Lin can serve heavy spin with an ice block. Although, for the past half year or so when I've been really doing hours of serve practice nearly everyday, my serves have improved a lot. I can't even imagine how some people don't really practice serves at all outside matches.
  12. Question on Biomechanics of the FH Loop

Power just means more energy in the swing ie: more racket head speed. Not muscle tensing. I've noticed that my best spin comes from basically a smash with the right racket angle and some tangential action. Not really brushing finely, but not really driving either. I try to brush as much as I...
  13. Question on Biomechanics of the FH Loop

So there is a real benefit to hitting with A LOT of power as opposed to less power? The gains in spin from a slower action with more brush will be surpassed by the same original brushing action with more force?

If screwing around with RPB counts... No, I'm a shakehander. I can only play RPB/TPB against quite lower players and even then my block is bad. However I've done some work to learn an elementary RPB because I like it. The only reason I don't play penhold is lack of coaching...
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Hah, that's a great one. I didn't get to play at all today, so I just did a few hours of serves and self hitting. My timing was all whack. Can't get any whip into anything and everything wants to move all at the same time. Couldn't do heavy serves nor could I do any shots with even half...
  16. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

5:27, now that's a long serve receive. ;) I feel that RPB is stronger than SH when flicking from the backhand because of the better angle you can get on the ball. Even I've felt the difference between SH and RPB flicking in practice. Does this make any sense or is it just an individual...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Sure, deal. I had a good laugh seeing that old video, actually. Carl, like I said, I'm probably not a solid intermediate player or anything. However, do you really think it's impossible to improve from a "Maybe nearing 1000 USATT" level to low - mid 1000's? Especially when I can actually...
  18. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Sure. However, a serve like that will be ineffective no matter where you place it or when you pull it out if you're playing anyone who is anywhere near the 1000's. The no-spin serve I was doing in that video, and my current no-spin serves aren't anything alike. Let's not even talk about actual...
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Carl, those are all correct points. I told you it's a sub 1000 USATT game, right? However, those aren't of any value to me. I've kind of figured them out by now. :p The reason I stood near the middle when serving was because I actually THOUGHT I was far enough back, but then I realized...
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Carl, I already drew the line on my excuses and discussing them. I'll just do my best, because there are indeed options. Now, about that video: I still do a lot of things that are shown in the video. My game has not fundamentally changed and advanced to a very high level game or anything...
