  1. Slower rubbers to learn better technique?

While I have a pretty good idea what will happen, I must ask: Are you requesting they close the angle AND raise it, or only raise it without closing the angle? Although when I coach my friend next time, I will improve our spin response by making us loop onto a paddle at different degrees of...
  2. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

Or perhaps we can understand that "Well, you're not bad..." and "Well, you're not bad!" are different. I haven't figured out a way to accurately portray the nuances of speech via text yet, apart from using different words. Excuse me if my English, while mostly technically correct from a "book...
  3. Slower rubbers to learn better technique?

I block fairly close to the body with the paddle pretty high, so I think I understand the gist of what you're saying. What I don't understand is why exactly attempting to block in another way would hamper progress. I think I'm doing things right in this regard, so I might never come to...
  4. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

Why on Earth do people reply to my posts if they have me on ignore? Do you really go through the hassle of pressing the unhide button, or whatever you do, every time I post? Wouldn't it be better to just not reply instead of being edgy and passive aggressive about it?
  5. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

"While one video of someone playing in bad condition is not enough to comment much" I don't need to watch the videos fully, because they're not enough for anyone to start commenting unless it's something specific. You seem to know your problems, so it's not like it's my job. Someone will...
  6. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

While one video of someone playing in bad condition is not enough to comment much, you're not bad at least. I'm more admiring the sweet olympic level table you have there.
  7. Sell Butterfly Cresail - unplayed

Not to mention the selling/buying rules specifically state that this is not an auction house and you should place a price and then negotiate based on that. Or am I wrong?
  8. How to 'practice smart'

I dunno, some of the most beneficial practice I've got has been from throwing the ball in the air, letting it bounce, then doing whatever I want with it, with little footwork and opposing spin issues. Try to get a proper heavy topspin loop from really low below the net this way and tell me...
  9. Slower rubbers to learn better technique?

I get your point, but I still don't understand what exactly you meant when saying that blocking with the angle closed will not be good for your progress. I cannot block with a very closed angle like you see at 2600 USATT+, and I prefer a safer, higher, slower more flat block a little along the...
  10. Slower rubbers to learn better technique?

I know what is meant with you saying that, but what about high level blocking technique ie: Kenta Matsudaira, where the angle is very closed? Surely it's better to block the ball fast and low and not slow and high. I fail to see how blocking a pretty heavily topspinning ball with the blade...
  11. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

Comment. http://i.imgur.com/UQZvIhI.jpg Surprisingly hard to get a good picture from this angle that's not turned over or misaligned. This is, by the way. :(
  12. My One of a Kind Blade by (BBC) BladesByCharlie.com Mahogany - Hinoki - Koto

That website looks pretty legit. I see they come slightly pre-sanded, too. Always nice.
  13. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

He is quite tall and a handsome gentleman of darker descent. I think it's safe to assume he's quite large. ;) I personally sanded my blade's handle area (mostly because I use it as a penhold screwaround blade as well) and it did give me a bit more potential for a deep grip, but I think you'd...
  14. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

I've been wondering. Is the grip firmness at impact good because it reduces shakiness, or because it raises the spring rate = "hardness" of the bat head, or both? Should I be thinking about it like a dynamic spring, or to add "weight" onto the stroke for a split second?
  15. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

Finger length, but also flexibility and muscular balance is important to consider. Pro players have different hand muscle balance than us commoners, even if by a little.
  16. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

You just described my guy exactly. I played him once, and just kept throwing really soft spinny loops at him, coupled with heavy backspin serves. He tried attacking it and kept putting it wherever: in the net, off the edge, in my face. He quit at 7-0. :D
  17. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

The only generalization I can make is that it's better to grip too loose than too tight. I know this one absolute beginner who holds the paddle basically nearly hanging from the middle of the handle, extremely loosely. His attacking stroke is a really big whip with bad form, but it kinda works...
  18. Speed, Spin, Control Ratings. Are they any use?

  19. Shuki Development and Questions

Huh. I don't want to be counterproductive to your learning, and I don't think I've ever said anything you've valued, so I guess I'll keep it to myself. Sorry mate.
  20. Shuki Development and Questions

I once played an RPB penholder who could instantly change the direction and contact of his forehand to either produce a really wide hitting stroke or a really spinny loop. He wasn't even that good, but it really messed me up for the first few balls. I had played around with penholding before, so...
