my favorite version Art Blakey with the great Lee Morgan, and the soulful Bobby Timmons, https://vimeo.com/273967575
  2. Moanin'

It helps my timing in TT,
  3. Struggling to drive the ball after change to chinese rubber

It is a big change. It takes time. The philosophy of the rubbers is completely different, and you need to give time for your technique to adapt to it. You may want to start by opening your racket angle a little.
  4. Dragutin Surbek 1946-2018

Dragutin Surbek 1946-2018. One of my heroes growing up passed away yesterday at 71. One of the greats. As a kid I tried to model my game after the way he played. I only saw one bit of film (no YouTube then) so it wasn't easy. But he was powerful from both sides, never gave up on a point or a...
  5. Appelgren Allplay upgrade

Allplay is such a great blade that I might consider going with a somewhat faster rubber instead.
  6. Tb alc

Generally won't happen on a TB-ALC because I think they treat the top surface of that blade with something (maybe UV light) that makes it a little harder and a bit shiny. It can certainly happen with some Btfly blades though.
  7. Pushing with gooses neck

Sometimes even really good players forget to work on certain fundamentals. Being nervous and under pressure makes things worse, especially when you know that if you push a little too high you are toast.
  8. TT in Germany

I have played TT in Cologne, Freiburg, close to Frankfurt and in Heidelberg. I am a scientist and most of the times I have been there on business. (Visited Suga once near Frankfurt just for fun though, still remember it, can't wait to come back). These are all fantastic places to study and...
  9. Calling all 'TALL' Players!

I am 184 cm, I play fairly close to the table. But I had a coach train me hard to do it, since he was saying some years ago that I was giving up ground way to easy. Nothing is learned unless you practice it. Actually the tallest close-in player I can think of was Kalinic back in the day. He...
  10. Pushing with gooses neck

Like I said video yourself. It is better to keep strokes as simple as possible to do the task at hand. You are not trying to whip the ball when you push. You are trying to keep it low and exactly where you want it.
  11. Pushing with gooses neck

Pushing can be done a lot of ways but if your wrist is flopping all over you are going to be erratic IMHO. You also need to be relaxed. So you need to find the happy medium, not rigid, not flopping. Try videoing yourself doing the shot in various ways. You will learn a lot. A cell phone is...
  12. How do I get better!?

Play a lot. It should include structured practice where you focus on particular skills and some matches. Have to do both to get better. Watch good players. Try to pay attention to the things they do that don't necessarily look impressive. Video yourself playing. Figure out the ways you...
  13. Hitler Reacts to ITTF's Game-Changing Announcement

We live in an era where satire is impossible.
  14. Jorg Rosskopf vs TableTennisDaily's Dan | 1 set showdown!

I love the way he controls the ball during the point. Until he gets the forehand he wants. And then, BOOOOOOM!!!!!
  15. How can I convince my friends that TT is a sport?

If you don't want to unfriend them, simply ignore them. You are not playing for them, you play for yourself. What they think doesn't matter. Upon further reflection. Unfriend them. They are to unsophisticated and ignorant of the ways of the world to be your friend (since they have never...
  16. Your spouse disliking you playing table tennis

Has anyone not had that same problem? ;) I actually have a new wife who is fine with it. Last one, not so much. When you have kids things do get pretty complicated though, so you might want to consider that most or all of us who post here are not professional players and it is good to keep...
  17. Impact of the plastic ball on the game

Yes, that took some getting used to. A month or so. I made the switch in 2014 so for me this is just normal behavior of a ball now.
  18. Impact of the plastic ball on the game

I had noticed it. But not as much if you play with a Butterfly G40+ (which will hopefully disappear before long).
  19. From Korbel to Viscaria a big step up?

Age makes it worse. But it is also possible to discern a pain that comes from your sport, that gets worse when you play your sport. This is a sign tnat something needs to change in your sport, some aspect of technique and possibly equipment. (Shoes are squipment too). Ignore this at your...
