  1. What's a Kicker serve?!

ITTF TV Polish open Womens doubles final 10:28 and 31:08 are good examples.
  2. What are your ambitions?

Never had any TT ambitions, just enjoyed things as they happened. My current ambitions are to wind my own game down and become a taxi service. Might have a bit of a dash at a few vets first in a couple of years though if I can be bothered.
  3. What's a Kicker serve?!

To me, the kicker serve is done with more of a tomahawk action. The one in the vid will no doubt kick, but the true kicker is served with a backspin action and it is this deception as much as the topspin which causes the problems.
  4. what are people using to boost rubbers now due to the glue ban?

It is hard because all of the chemicals which give the SG effect are banned. Personally I am not using anything to boost my Calibra as I don't know if I could keep it under control, but you can be sure that when I get some new sheets I will be boosting the old ones as a little experiment to see...

Because I don't have a clue what you are asking.

Because I don't have a clue what you are asking.
  6. Totally,Which ball do you think is the best?

Double Fish or DHS - good value and not a lot of diffence to the more expensive balls. I hate Schildkrot as one in every box is an egg.
  7. Haifu Whale

I used Chinese rubbers for years, and then tried this expecting it to be something special - It wasn't (and neither was Galaxy Apollo or the Neo Hurricanes). Also, if you are playing tournaments, make sure you have something else in your bag for when they tell you your rubber is too thick.
  8. What table tennis rubbers & blade do you use?

Blade: Galaxy T-4 FH and BH: Stiga Calibra LT (Max)
  9. Fred - The first 3 Years.

Although we have been told that he is exceptionally talented at Tennis also, we can't afford to keep up with the cost of the coaching needed to allow him to achieve his full potential. He would always end up being overtaken by kids who could afford more coaching and court-time which I would find...
  10. Fred - The first 3 Years.

Fred enjoys his tennis, so I don't want to stop him doing it. He doesn't seem to have any problem switching between the 2 sports though I think he gets a little bit too sideways at times with his table tennis shots. There may come a time when he has to consider stopping playing tennis, but he...
  11. if you are winning 10-0....

It depends on who my opponent is.
  12. How to return a difficult serve

There is no short cut to returning a difficult serve. Play and train against as many people as you can with difficult serves and you will begin to find less and less of them difficult. It is the same with other areas of your game that you want to improve. It doesn't matter what others say...
  13. Fred - The first 3 Years.

He does everything else left handed too except batting at cricket though I think this is probably more due to his 2 handed backhand at tennis. He did play TT lefthanded and tennis right handed for a few weeks when he first started playing tennis a couple of years ago. I think this was because...
  14. What's a Kicker serve?!

A kicker tends to be a topspin serve which is done with a backspin type action. Players who get the most deception from this serve tend to hide the slight lift of the bat on contact (which gives the topspin) behind their shoulder. The ETTA have a vid of Gavin Evans doing this serve with slow-mo...
  15. Fred - The first 3 Years.

He gets plenty of 'real drills'. Just not on the vids.
  16. Fred - The first 3 Years.

A new forum, lots of new members (as well as lots of members I know from elsewhere). As many of you don't know me or Fred, it seems like the perfect excuse to put a few vids together showing his progress training over the last 3 years or so. Fred's first video - 28/10/07 (aged 4 1/2) Fred's...
  17. What is the best alternative for Tenergy 05?

If you are willing to spend 2 or 3 weeks to adapt to Calibra LT from Tenergy, then it is probably the first rubber which can truly compete with it. It drives and blocks better (after a week of putting the rushed ones into the net) and is a far superior rubber off the table. It does take time to...
  18. What Is Your Favourite Table Tennis Rubber Of All Time?

In the days of glue, probably Mambo for the sound or 729 Transcend SP because it was cheap and came alive with glue. Calibra LT seems to perform as well as anything currently though (including T05).
  19. Introduce yourself to the forum! :)

Hi. I'm James. Been around the forums for a while. Keep trying to play less and less TT, but end up playing just as much though I have managed to dodge British League this year. Mostly just playing bradford league, and the odd other match here and there. Not sure how much time I will spend on...
