I think I'm relatively passive. I like to try outplacing my opponent with a strong push or blocking, until they don't return or I get an easier ball to attack. :) But when they push long I'll attack of course (If I'm not too lazy).

You can see the ball stops the moment Zhang Jike touches it. It was too short to loop it so ZJK couldn't get the full contact that he wanted. It is not going back because of the backspin, but because ZJK touches it. Still awesome placement from Ma Lin.

Indeed, the serve is maybe illegal. You let it bounce on the table and throw it in the air right after. Just a small adjustment to let it rest in your palm first I think. Many top players don't use a cupped palm btw and they never get called illegal for it. It is no problem if you cup your palm...
