  1. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

LIU SHIWEN! LIU SHIWEN! But kudos to Ma Lin for believing in her and coaching her so tirelessly.
  2. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

These 'golden' pairs also make the best doubles partners. ZYN/WN, LXX/Guo Yue, LSW/DN, CM/ZYL and now WMY/SYS (though I wouldn't quite discount CXT).
  3. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

Lol, he was just trying to flash the lucky numbers embedded on the back of his shoes.
  4. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

I actually think Doo has the best chance. CM doesn't seem to be in impeccable form, losing unnecessary points and dropping sets to far less decorated players throughout the championship (as of 25 Apr). Kato might have the element of surprise considering she has never met Liu Shiwen on the...
  5. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

Of course, his new disciple has already amassed more points in two sets than his old disciple did in four sets.
  6. FZD: More than Rivals with ML

But if XX wins this WTTC (high chance of making it to the finals), then LGL will have to mince his own words XD
  7. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

Because Men's Doubles is not a standalone event in the Olympics, merely one of the five matches in the team event. Mixed Doubles is the exact opposite. If XX was younger, he probably would take part in all three (which I think he did for one of the Opens last year) but age is a real issue I believe.
  8. World Table Tennis Championships 2019

For instance? Not seeing any terribly interesting match-ups for 23 April. Perhaps the following? Women's Singles - Doo Hoi Kem vs Yoo Eunchong (I remember her as the dark horse during Qatar Open, beating Hina Hayata) Men's Singles - Truls Moregard vs Ho Kwan Kit - Tom Jarvis vs Yoshimura...
  9. CNT's WTTC Warm-Up Matches

Yeah, according to recent reports he did lose to WMY (gasp). Chen Meng also beat Fan Zhendong.
  10. CNT's WTTC Warm-Up Matches

Some interesting short clips from the CNT's pre-WTTC training in Austria. Ma Long vs Liu Shiwen http://t.cn/EXSbQA6?m=4361660166083418&u=1002861732 Ma Long vs Ding Ning http://t.cn/EXaBG4F?m=4361650242361586&u=1002861732 Lin Gaoyuan vs Wang Manyu...
  11. CNT's WTTC Warm-Up Matches

There are rumours that CM will be coached by Ma Lin too, which personally I find unfair to both her and LSW because the other core players all have their own 'personalised' trainers (i.e. Ding Ning & Guo Yan, Zhu Yuling & Qiu Yike, Wang Manyu & Xiao Zhan). While these coaches also co-supervise...
  12. CNT's WTTC Warm-Up Matches

The CNT has left for Austria to begin the last phase of their WTTC preparations, one of which includes overcoming jet lag XD. Aside from those participating in the events, the men's and women's teams have brought along other players as practice partners. Wang Yidi, Chen Ke, Liu Fei, Gu...
  13. Yui Hamamoto moving to Austria

I'm more surprised by her choice of country instead of the lack of any visible/known connections. Is Austria poised to become a strong team? I imagine she would have much better luck representing Hong Kong, Taiwan or even Singapore.
  14. CNT's WTTC Warm-Up Matches

Yeah, she didn't lose to them but most of the matches were won through a gruelling process which is why she was matched up against two defenders for this warm-up (Wu Yang & Liu Fei).
  15. CNT's WTTC Warm-Up Matches

The closed-door training camp between M12 and Qatar should have augmented her ability to play against defenders though but it doesn't look like she is faring any better against them. For me, she just doesn't do well against people (e.g. male players who are stronger than her) or styles (choppers...
  16. 2019 Asian Cup April 5-7

    "出谋划策".
  17. 2019 Asian Cup April 5-7

The rest of the world thanks ZYL for a lesson on how to beat CM ahead of the WTTC in two weeks' time.
  18. 2019 Asian Cup April 5-7

I read somewhere yesterday that some spokesperson for the JNT said that the third player to represent Japan for Tokyo Olympics 2020 is still very much up for grabs at the moment after Hirano's terrible performance in the group stage. S/he even went on to state that Hina Hayata, Shibata Saki and...
  19. 2019 Asian Cup April 5-7

I think this match proves that the CNT coaches made the right choice by excluding ZYL from singles.
  20. 2019 Asian Cup April 5-7

A little random here but it seems Feng Tianwei is on a roll this tournament? 3-0 Ishikawa and now 4-0 Jeon. Maybe she will beat ZYL in the SF? Would be nice to see Hirano emerge victorious during the QF match with ZYL but, hmm.
