They've always announced their lineups early. In fact this announcement is already considered late compared to Tokyo (singles end of 2019) and Rio (singles after Korea open 2015, I think October)

My opinion is that Ito should go even if she's benched if she cares about any sort of future with JTTA. Clearly relationships are strained and she needs to mend them. There are many more milestones in TT besides Olympics which Zeio has also pointed out that Mima has yet to achieve. That said...

Hayata drops only a single game to Shibata Saki on her way to the 2024 all Japan crown. From 2020 to 2024, Hayata has only lost to Ito at all Japan. Once in 2021 semifinals and again at the 2022 finals.

i'm more impressed that Moe and Mende managed to match Ito and Hirano in the rallies blow for blow. Didn't feel like they were technically disadvantaged at all.

But if Hirano and Miwa go to the olympics, this is the pair that Japan will most likely open their team matches with.
