  1. WTT Star Contender Doha 2024

The difference between winning 11-9 and losing 9-11 is huge. There's a reason why Hayata could beat her teammates and WYD in deciders but not against SYS or CM. In fact if you observe most close matches the better player wins more often than not, whether it's because they were more decisive...
  2. WTT Star Contender Doha 2024

Sun Yingsha with a very strange 'opposite leg' serve where she places her right foot in front of her left. No stomping either so it seems like there's less weight transfer.
  3. JTTA: Selection System to be Revamped for Paris 2024

Hirano just lost 0-3 to Yokoi. Not a good sign for All Japan 2024.
  4. Table Tennis in Bangkok

I'm planning to visit Bangkok for around 2-3 weeks in February. Some people have already told me that there are regular sessions at Central Plaza shopping mall, but just wanted to check if anyone else will be in town/knows places to play. Thanks!
  5. WTT Finals Women Nagoya 2023

Ito sounds like she has the flu, mentions that the weather has been cold and that she hasn't been able to get enough sleep. Good on her for beating Diaz in this condition. She also seems really stressed and deflated from stress of the Paris race.
  6. WTT Finals Women Nagoya 2023

Disappointing results, but I don't think we've seen the chinese WOMEN challenged so intensely in the first round of any ITTF/WTT finals before.
  7. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

    What if Hirano played singles????
  8. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Maybe they still don't trust WYD to play against Japan.
  9. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Hayata's 3-0 loss hurts even more now. Two losses and China is still in the lead. Really a case of lose the battle but win the war.
  10. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Expected Hayata to take at least one game. Is she entering the 'studied by China' phase already? Also I guess pigs can't fly.
  11. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Translation is too kind. The original says 'Japan's pig headed coach' which is very fitting. And yes, I think this XT event justifies Ito's alleged lack of team spirit. She probably knows exactly how pig headed management is and doesn't want to play along.
  12. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Hirano might have won 3 games and Hayata might have been able to secure 2 games in XD to go 5-1 into Men's singles.
  13. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Not really surprised. Japan only had the upper hand in singles, and in this format doubles carries more weight. Only way for Japan to have a chance was if Hayata won 3-0 and Harimoto won his match.
  14. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Japan had the option and they chose MD?
  15. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Korea is heavily favoured in WD and MD
  16. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Format is great. Makes the event truly feel like a team effort where weaker players can also contribute by not wiping out 3-0. In traditional team formats a 3-0 loss is the same as 3-2 so why even bother. Only gripe is that you can technically fill up the whole roster with just 2 men and 2...
  17. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Germany lost a very winnable match against Sweden 4-8. Had a chance to take two sets in the mixed doubles and women's singles but threw them both, forcing Watlher and Stumper into a match where they had to win every single set. Very nearly pulled it off but lacked the experience to go all the...
  18. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

Just realised that stage 2 is the end. There will be no finals/semifinals. Whoever wins the most points at the end of stage 2 will be crowded champion. I get that they want to allow as many matches as possible to let the teams experiment, but at least give us a good final.
  19. What do you think of Yuna Ojio's style?

Looks perfectly optimized for flat hitting to me
  20. ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2023, Chengdu, 12/4-10

All the girls are so lucky they don't have to play Diaz in this form I don't recall the Japanese girls ever matching the Chinese in rallies like this before: 2017 Hirano outsped and 2018 Ito outsmashed the competition, but it always felt like they were trying to end the point before the...
