  1. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

Nah, most serves faulted were not backhand serves. Where did you get that from? Backhand serves can have toss issues and some leave hands in the way. But definitely most backhand serves with decent toss are easily legal. I agree on the variety. Serving is a fun and creative part of the game...
  2. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

I agree on the solving. But whether pros would agree or accept it not sure.
  3. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

You can be sure the CNT have worked extensively with a similar system and have had their serves validated in advance. They don't leave such things to chance. I wish the system was more plainly making dubious serves faults. Rewarding marginal serves is not supposed to be the point of this. I...
  4. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

No, Ma Long didn't change his serves, they stopped using the TTR system. Even now, one weakness of the TTR system is that the Chinese players have used it and probably know its limitations while no one else likely has practiced with it. Because I really cannot believe the confidence with which...
  5. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

Larry Hodges has always argued that the correct criteria is visible to both netposts. Basically the serve should be in front of you. Unfortunately, most serves would be illegal as performed currently by the pros so they just prefer to keep their illegality rather than fix it. People forget...
  6. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

You missed his point, which is that Jorgic is also hiding his serves.
  7. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

Ma Long served a lot of hidden serves too, it is not about character, it is just what the sport has become.

So the club i played the event at streams most of its events. So there is some video. I often hate watching myself on video these days because I look even straighter than I feel after the first match. But some of the shots are on video. Here is one:
  9. Felix Lebrun lost 14 direct points on serve when faced Wang Chuqin

Felix does the same thing maybe just not as effectively in this match.
  10. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Florida hosted a lot of the US Opens on the past. It also has mild travel subsidies to encourage travel there though in the current economy such things might be gone. And of course Miami has become even more elite.
  11. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Felix had a chance. Darko did well as well. He is great and clearly the best but no one is unbeatable

I played a Giant RR this weekend - 8 matches yesterday (Saturday), 6 matches today (Sunday). Went 6-2 yesterday, losing 2-3 to two kids. the last match, against the better kid, taught me a couple of things that I thought I might take into today. Basically, since my coach is not around and...
  13. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Usually Asian players are focused on close to the table fast rally so Harimoto can take advantage of their time limitations close to the table with his efficiency. Wang is the one player who is fast enough and has enough time to study Harimoto to make this utterly uncompetitive though I...
  14. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Harimoto needs to go watch the tapes of Felix and Darko and reflect on whether his approach to stubbornly holding the table is worth it. The key thing that Wang has is the ability to redirect Harimoto's shots with early timing and high quality and this puts Harimoto on the defensive. But...
  15. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Hari-boy still trying to hold the table rather than go into the rally and give himself time. Let's see whether he can find any success doing this. His short game has to be perfect and so far it hasn't been.
  16. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Both Felix and Darko use sticky hybrid rubber on forehand so I don't think it was so much a strategy as just how they played. Harimoto's has also improved his forehand but whether that will make a difference, we will see. It has been a bad matchup for a while and the Sora match shows that it...
  17. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Obviously, as the foreigners get better, the repercussions have been relaxed. Everyone knows the expectation but if he doesn't win, it is not like they have serious alternatives. But this is WCQ vs Harimoto, which is for them about as good as it gets. Chen Yi vs ZYL is a bit meaningless in...
  18. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

WCQ's recovery is better than LSD and even more importantly, WCQ is a lefty so he is just harder to read and can hit angles that Harimoto is not used to defending. If lefties were common in table tennis, righties would train those angles too and it would be far less of an issue.
  19. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13

Lebrun plays head games with his serves as well. He decided not to open that can of worms.
  20. United States Smash 2025, Las Vegas, 7/3-13
