  1. League Play is a Different Animal...

Kallberg loses to Jin Ueda... (okay???) Steger to Stumper Dang loses to Zeljko (WHAT!!!) Kallberg beats Steger (sanity) Ueda/Allegro beat Dang/Haug (Allegro is one of the best doubles players in the world so...) Is it that the pros were tired from Singapore or something else? Beating...
  2. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Whenever someone complains about the sidespin on my loop, if they have the patience, I point them to this video.
  3. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Being stuck close the table has me looking for options, so I am at a cross roads of sorts. I really should just accept it is almost impossible to get better playing once a week but losing to some players is just getting to my pride.
  4. Why did China not field Wang Manyu after she saved them against India?

I remembered I forgot Kihara after I wrote my post, and again, the existence of WMY is the key. They framed it as a singles thing, but the reality is that WYD is just toast with respect to the Olympics, the team is better able to tolerate Chen Meng at #3. The Chen Meng and Wang Manyu pairing...
  5. Tibhar blade closest to Viscaria?

Sometimes, it depends on whether you are focused on design/materials, playing style or both. All three will appeal to the same kind of player, but the outer ply being koto vs limba might be a big deal in which case you would prefer the MK Carbon.
  6. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

I think he meant FZD vs WCQ. Come on, Tony, give him more credit than that...
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Good to hear you are playing again, if possible invest some time into physical therapy if you haven't already.
  8. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

Definitely wasn't me that said anything about the stability of topspin rallies, I have always called Wang the king of low arcing topspin. Fan used to make it work against Wang from time to time with well placed counters and blocks to the wide forehand but Fan seems to be on vacation at the moment
  9. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

It could also have easily been 2-2, people see what they want to see.
  10. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

Since I didn't discuss women, better to give them their category. WMY didn't change anything for me, but I agree that beating those pipa players was important.
  11. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

Taking inventory of this tournament as a whole, Qiu Dang. Liang Jingkun, Cho Daesong and Timo Boll are the big winners by the eye test. Achanta was a big winner but I think his win won't affect as much as the others. Lin Yun Ju. Harimoto and Felix Lebrun stayed fairly level and took what the...
  12. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

Well Korea will let us know whether Fan still has something to say or not.
  13. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

It was really amazing, the final confirmed it because Liang brought back balls that his other opponents could not bring back and Wang brought them back with interest. I still am a bit shocked by what I just saw. Yesterday, Anders LInd was saying in WTT youtube comments that this is the...
  14. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

If it isn't on video, it never happened. I find that the game is never quite how you remember it lol. But seriously, congrats on getting the feeling of invincibility.
  15. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

That was impressive. Definitely a higher level than I remember seeing from even most players I consider physical.
  16. Graph comparing speed (output) vs input of different rubber types

Alright - I think without putting tackiness (which is possibly what you mean by Chinese) on the chart, it is hard to understand and hybrid rubbers are the bulk of ESN rubbers nowadays at the professional level on the forehand. Tackiness helps a rubber play with more touch in the short game, and...
  17. Graph comparing speed (output) vs input of different rubber types

For people serious about looking at the reality of things, substituting logic for data is a bad idea. However, if we do have the data, finding a good story to explain it is a good idea. So you have skipped a step.
  18. WTT Singapore Smash 2024 3/7-3/17

I think these kinds of narratives around athletes without being familiar with their individual situations, while fair game, are very likely to be naive or completely wrong (after all, FZD and LJK are fatties). The truth is that LYJ has done a lot of physical work to get stronger and Bobrow has...
  19. Awkward state of boosting

The only way they can tell you boost is you or they bought the original rubber and compared it to the one on your blade, assuming that the your rubber passes the tests around thickness limits. All that is enforced are the thickness limits.
