No, you don't have to give warnings in table tennis for misbehavior. It is at the umpire/referee's discretion.
  2. ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals Busan 2024

The umpire is allowed to claim that the talking/shouting to interfere with the opponent's shot is a foul. In table tennis.

Finally what I am saying about not giving lets is not something easily understood by pointing to specific items in the rules. If you read the rules as a whole and have spoken to experienced umpires, it is easier to see and something they will bring up when asked why they didn't replay a...

Again, the umpire is not allowed to just call a let because they feel like it. And the opponent is not allowed to hinder your hitting the ball. It is one of those things that isn't as consistently enforced as it used to be so when someone does it, they become the villain, just like umpires...

Yes, and that is the same way that many calls are initially wrong until they are brought to the attention of the umpire. My main point is that the umpire is not allowed to call for a replay. She could have maintained her original position that Zhou won the point. Generally umpires are...

If the disturbance comes from neither of the players, sure.

I have seen similar calls in tennis. Novak Djokovic once made noise when his opponent was about to hit the ball at Wimbledon and the umpire called it and the commentators complained just as some members here are complaining. Novak still won the match so oh well...
  8. ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals Busan 2024

The ref should have called it. It is a problem when a player makes a noise either when the opponent is about to hit the ball or makes a noise irregularly that trails into the opponent's contact with the ball. It is unfortunate that it happened at match point but these are similar to the...

There are rules about how to proceed in such situations and unfortunately, umpires don't have the ability to order players to play let points on demands. If the umpire felt that a hindrance was caused by the actions of one of the players, the player doesn't get a let. The player loses the the...

A good reminder that perception is not always reality and things happen that you may not be aware of.
  11. Recommend me a super slow control oriented setup , for someone who basically just puts everything back ?

So I would go in a different direction. I would try one or the Butterfly Balsacarbo blades, the X5 or the X7. They allow for easy controlled blocking because they are stiff but they don't rebound the ball much. And you can play an offensive game with them if you put in the work.

Like I said elsewhere, they need to introduce some kind of stress motivator into her life, maybe hold her dog or mother hostage if she doesn't win, she can't continue this Zhang Jike indifference if she can't rise to the occasion at will.

Did you read the article that the Japanese journalist wrote about how we imposed stories on the athletes based on press releases and assumptions that paint an inaccurate picture of what it is like to be on the Japanese team?
  14. Table Tennis Dilemma: Strengthening Backhand or Changing Playstyle? [I chose strengthening]

This thread may be too long, but it might give you some ideas about why it takes so long. https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/topics/backhand-topspin-tutorials-are-useless.32684/ Just remember, if you are still going to be playing in 1, 2 , 3 or 4 years time, any work you put into your...
  15. Would you like to see ELO ratings applied to pro players?

We are mixing up a few points here (whether the current system should give points for tesm events or continental events or national events) vs tour events vs points and ELO. The WTT is trying to create a professional tour in an atmosphere where national affiliation is the core of the tour...
  16. Would you like to see ELO ratings applied to pro players?

This perspective is a bit one-sided, there are many situations where world ranking in points based systems does perform better than ELO. It's ultimately a balancing act, and the points systems do encourage tour participation to maintain ranking, while ELO systems were difficult to use to...
