  1. 2020 China National Championship

The youngster Liu Yebo vs the veteran (to put it mildly) Zhang Chao. Can Zhang Chao enter the time machine like Wang Bo? Zhang Chao wins the first game 11-8. He is fighting to give a morose-looking LGY a chance to take on ML. Zhang Chao wins 2nd game and forces Liu Yebo to use timeout as...
  2. 2020 China National Championship

Very tight first game between the CNT shakehand lefties. Only separation occurs on last point - WCQ 12-10 LGY. LGY pulls out an equally tight second game - this is going to be a classic if it stays this tight. The tightness isn't holding. WCQ is varying game speed and power and getting a...

Ma Long struggled out the gate, but is now a boss. Zhou Qihao reads Ma Long very well. Ma Long has to always expect the ball.

No it is not though it isn't the whole story. You need to grip the racket harder to create a normal force that prevents it from slipping if you don't have grip tape as handles that are smooth have less friction than the tape. The flip side is that you may grip into it more if it feels too soft...
  6. Is my fast blade a “crutch”?

I think zyu81 captured most of it but something about this stroke is a massive step in the wrong direction. Your old stroke had more correct elements, this blade looks too slow for you and you are massively overcompensating and swinging across your body to a point where if you don't finish the...

Yes you are. Usually, trying to time the use of the body and legs better will initially lead a drop in shot quality on both forehand and backhand. It is worth it, but as amateurs, we lack the time and the patience. But try to find a balance if you are trying to beat really good players...
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

You are working hard on your game - that is the good part. You are also moving to the ball on many of they strokes .The ball quality is good but aspects of your approach are going to make it hard to improve long term. When you practice movement, the focus should be moving into position to...
  10. Advice on BH technique?

It is probably better you don't, it always looks worse on video than your brain pretends it was.
  11. Backhand change Dignics 05 to 09c or.....

Yep. Mine clearly degraded compared to my new sheets but I still play well with them.
  12. Adam Bobrow vs World no. 7 Lin Yun-Ju

Adam always puts in effort to win. His style just doesn't register with what most people think is serious table tennis. But one of the reasons that people don't let like Adam is because it is a hard style. Lin was just way too strong for it to matter.
  13. Adam Bobrow vs World no. 7 Lin Yun-Ju

Everything was sick. It kinda reminded me of when I played Filip Szymanski in a handicap match at Westchester (I was spotted seven points). I won the first game 11-1. It was downhill from there. I couldn't put a ball past him and the ball kept thing back with crazy spin from incredible...
  14. Backhand change Dignics 05 to 09c or.....

09c is IMO more about being able to take bigger swings at the ball close to the table because of the tackiness. If that is what you are looking for then go for it. But it definitely isn't the fastest rubber out there. Openers are still largely about your effort IMO.
  15. Backhand change Dignics 05 to 09c or.....

If you want a looping rubber, sure but if you want to punch and block, not the best fit. If you don't topspin consistently and powerfully, it is hard to get the ball moving with D09c.
  16. Backhand change Dignics 05 to 09c or.....

Definitely D80 or D64. D09C is likely a step in the wrong direction.
  17. Looking for advices on forehand

Try to get something that shows the lower body. You are overusing the upper arm on some shots but the stroke looks good.
  18. Is my fast blade a “crutch”?

Hinoki has a feeling that for some people discourages giving good impact to the ball. But your post is very valuable as I think people sometimes miss the essence of providing a high quality ball is to look for technique/timing that produces it, not necessarily to mimicking everything a pro does...
  19. Is my fast blade a “crutch”?

I think you should use whatever you want. It won't make your game that much better or worse - the main thing is that you enjoy playing with it and the rest becomes a matter of training hours. IMHO, the key to fast equipment is to play for the rally and the key with slower equipment is to...

Kihara and Harimoto should have something to say about that no?
