  1. Match video: Feedback welcome

Now if you had posted that before writing anything else, you would have received far more constructive commentary in my opinion. I will return later this evening to post stuff, but table tennis is too technical for you to develop good form by watching others unless you have a decent...
  2. Looking for advice (mainly on equipment)

I actually use Red on Forehand now but I have gone through periods when I used Black on FH. I decided that the Red rubber looked better when my forehand rubber was beaten to death so I used that instead. So you see, if you use a black Euro rubber on FH, you have no clue how to have cool...
  3. Match video: Feedback welcome

Carl listened to Alex who was using the Korean approach where they put in footwork drills/school for a while as a side show before bring you to the table so you know how to move before starting lessons.
  4. Match video: Feedback welcome

There is too much information about yourself and context missing. What is your rating/experience level and what are your goals? How long have you been playing for?
  5. Looking for advice (mainly on equipment)

To answer your question anyways, get 1.9/2.0 to 2.1/Max. Any of the rubbers is fine, though players with consistently harder strokes prefer harder sponges. I would go with Rakza 7 both sides but if I had weight concerns or simply wanted to slow down my swing, I would try the soft. Sponge...
  6. Looking for advice (mainly on equipment)

All these questions are cool but they are not as important as many hours you spend training. It's really sad sometimes when I see someone spend so much time on equipment and their technique is still not advanced.

And he managed to sneak in the Dragon too! :p

    Good catch. Yes, right hip.

I didn't play in the hidden serve era. I have a love hate relationship with the pendulum serve as well. I took me a long time to start accepting that I should be contacting the ball over my left hip.

This is a sensitive game, especially for us part timers. We form habits based on limited practice hours and probably even more on match play. IF you are taking a long term view towards improvement, it's best to do what you want to do better even if it costs you matches. The time spent doing...

You probably wouldn't notice it because in a real match, the recovery that most players use to complete their serves would be part of my motion and that would move the free arm away as the serve is completed. I don't start my serve in a position that impedes the view of the receiver so the ball...

The bigger issue is what happens when this serve stops working at some level. Are you then going to get better at serving it and in what way?
  13. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I disagree but to each his own. If what I am doing has issues, then the pendulum serve is fundamentally illegal.

Do you have any others? It's not about getting called for it. It's about following the rules. Some of us may not care about such things but I do. I know it is a good serve but that is not the point. My body orientation on that serve was pretty extreme.

That's a bad toss chased but maybe I should practice that for left handers. But if you are where a right handed receiver is, you will see the ball. What's the time stamp for that serve?

Thanks, Pricey. The serves are far from optimal - this was mostly a consistency of spin generation exercise. I think when I start serving to hit precise trajectories, points and depths on the table, I will be challenged more by the things you mentioned. My coach criticized the consistency...
  17. 2016 Asia VS Europe All-Stars Challenge

Did Joo really play Shibaev? I have heard reports elsewhere that the match was stopped at 6-3? I would pick Shibaev in that battle but not by 3-0. The Asia team this year was really good. No Dima or Freitas - shows you what Europe was thinking...

It's partly the angle of the camera, which is clearly a little to the right of the centerline, but I have never had someone tell me that I am hiding my serves in my life, though I have sometimes in annoyance vs people who hide theirs but never consistently as I don't practice it and it hurts my...

Here is is my latest backspin serve practice video. It may bore you but it is good stuff and fair warning should you be pushing my serves in the near future.
