  1. General dislike of LP's?

My coach actually incorporates short pips and then long pips into his loop lessons fairly early (1100-1400 rating) either when you face long pips or you are trying to get a higher level loop. His rationale is that short pips don't feed your loop topspin to work with so you are forced to...
  2. Forehand topspin arm movement -.Frustration !

Andy, I worked very hard on this myself. http://ooakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=27371 The biggest advice I received was summarized in this post, though there are other nuances I talk people through when I coach them. http://ooakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=27371&start=75#p292375 I...
  3. European Games - Baku 2015

That's not izra's point. When you play a certain style, you usually get good at playing at style against other people. Table tennis is like chess, but good chess players are not even that creative - what they are good at is memorizing lots of positions - the creativity happens at the extreme...
  4. General dislike of LP's?

This is pretty false and is just you making an excuse that you do not realize is self-perpetuating. The truth is that learning anything as complicated as table tennis takes time. You have to learn to play against one thing before moving to another. If you start out learning against inverted...

Can't this commentator remember when someone has already used his timeout?
  6. European Games - Baku 2015

Its not banned in the Olympics but it's banned for major ITTF events (World Cup, WTTC and WTTTC). IMO, every country has its immigration policy. No one should complain if their country is doing what it needs to to keep the sport alive. Many of those players are raising the level of TT in Europe.
  7. Technique reverting to pre-lesson standard. Why?

SugaD, TareqPhoto isn't wired like the rest of us. Accept it quickly and early or like UpsideDownCarl and myself, you will be stuck throwing 3*-balls into the ocean. NL Andy, Everything takes time. I remembered when I came back to this sport 4 years ago (and I never learned to loop or spin...
  8. Use of 'shadow' training?

Yes, that has been my experience as well. In fact, shadow stroking encouraged me to try lefty footwork drills. Weird but true.
  9. European Games - Baku 2015

We probably would have if Pitchford posted here as often...
  10. Good instructional forehand topspin video

Yes, I know Edmund. We are overdue for a match. He used to beat up on me pretty badly when I was in the 1500-1900 zone. Would like a chance to remedy that. Because if my knee issues amongst other things, I have never been a big footwork guy. My focus is always on strokes, especially arm...

  12. Good instructional forehand topspin video

The best site IMO (unfortunately) is one you have to pay for - TTEdge. Brett Clarke has started a series of videos on "Learning Table Tennis" where he is going through all the major strokes. He has covered the forehand topspin and the critical elements to getting it right in a manner that is...

  14. Use of 'shadow' training?

The other big benefit of shadow stroking is that learning is a physical process - we just aren't conscious of the physics and chemistry that underlies it. But your muscles have to adapt, your timing has to change etc. All these things are physical processes. Shadow stroking helps build those...
  15. Technique reverting to pre-lesson standard. Why?

Hey, Andy, while you are not at a stage where this may apply yet, I would like to add one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet. Everything that has been said is true - just continue the practicing and add in some things that make it closer to real match situations. The thing I would like to...
  16. Use of 'shadow' training?

I actually like it for footwork drills. I will not dare do those while being fed balls, so shadow training at least lets me go at my own pace.
  17. European Games - Baku 2015

Brabhamista, here is the English translation of what SuctionD posted: In the German camp is meanwhile hoping that Boll's condition improves to the beginning of the individual competitions for the top 16-placed on Wednesday. He no longer could be replaced in the individual at this time also...

Here is the classic web article for understanding pips: http://www.gregsttpages.com/articles3/53-articles/long-pimples/87-long-pimples-for-beginners
  19. Use of 'shadow' training?

I've written something related elsewhere. Shadow stroking is extremely important. In fact, a coach should get you to shadow a stroke before you bring it to the table. Then you should replicate that stroke in multiball (either fed to you or off the drop) and do the proper stroke you shadowed...
  20. TT Myth Busters

I think this should be used to respond to everyone who continually posts on the misconceptions of table tennis players - how will understanding these misconceptions improve how I play? If they do, then please share. If not, stop wasting our time with interesting nonsense other than presenting...
