  1. Advice on gluing rubbers

Here in Houston it can be a big problem. In the previous house I live in, the air conditioning really didn't do a good job reducing the humidity. I have since moved to a newer house (about 6 months ago) and I have less of a problem now with the same glues and same blades.
  2. Matthew Syed

He lost to Jimmy Butler one year (they are the same age). Jimmy told me a funny story about that. I think it may have happened at the US Open, I'm not sure. Apparently Syed didn't know anything about Jimmy before the match except for recognizing his name. He knew he might have to play him...
  3. Matthew Syed

Against KLH in his prime he would still stand no chance. KLH is one of the alltime greats and possibly the smoothest player ever. Matthew Syed was mostly around 50 in the world most of his career (made it to 25 one year) and these newer balls don't make life easier for defenders. KLH without...
  4. Advice on gluing rubbers

Cool or humid conditions mean you have to wait quite a lot longer for glue to dry before attaching the rubber. That can be a problem where I live.
  5. table tennis tips "Increase Spin in table tennis by Chinese coaching"

One thing the second guy told me is that these days at a lot of the facilities in China they are giving better attention to schooling. He and his mom were thinking at the time that he was one of the lower-half of players at his age at this provincial team (there were a lot of them) and that his...
  6. table tennis tips "Increase Spin in table tennis by Chinese coaching"

I met another kid here who had just started the university where I teach (this was about 5 years ago). Until age 13 he had been at one of these provincial training facilities in Xiamen in Fujian province. At about age 13-14, his mom got concerned for him and he transferred to regular schools...
  7. table tennis tips "Increase Spin in table tennis by Chinese coaching"

Yes, it is clear what you say. Of course this is coupled in the case of Emrat with really strange beliefs about what the rest of the world DOESN'T know. What is funny is that he thinks he has discovered the secret knowledge. I've traveled to China and visited a provincial training center for...
  8. table tennis tips "Increase Spin in table tennis by Chinese coaching"

Its like learning to loop from Charlie Chan.
  9. table tennis tips "Increase Spin in table tennis by Chinese coaching"

I very much get the concept. (A doctoral student I was supervising did this and needless to say, he will never be allowed into another graduate program in the US). I guess it just needs to be practical and this is all "for entertainment purposes only". We can't really protect people from...
  10. The Advanced Response Blade - The Future of Table Tennis Now! - by Anthony.R.Brown

This is something I am faced with from time to time. People have said at least twice, "you are a forum moderator (at MyTT) so it is a shame you express your opinion on X". One person said that by expressing mine I was suppressing his! Much butthurt he felt. The answer is no. (I should have...
  11. Quadri Aruna vs TableTennisDaily's Dan! 1 set showdown!

I once played a game like that against Thomas Keinath. I know the feeling.
  12. Quadri Aruna vs TableTennisDaily's Dan! 1 set showdown!

That's the thing about these really great players against even good amateurs. Amateurs just can't really hurt them. Unless something really weird happens, they just keep bringing it back.
  13. 100 % REAL (not fake!) SECRETS OF CHINESE TRAINING

So is this commercial coaching, provincial coaching, or the rare National version? (Just joking, these are good videos).
  14. table tennis tips "Increase Spin in table tennis by Chinese coaching"

First time I encountered this guy's videos, some months ago at MyTT, I noticed that. This "mystique of the Orient" thing seems to be one of his favorite themes, the idea that he has some secret insight into what Chinese coaches say, and that western coaching cannot manage to convey even the most...
  15. The Advanced Response Blade - The Future of Table Tennis Now! - by Anthony.R.Brown

Flying bits of fecal matter accelerated by a tachyon field. Shields up!
  16. New era with DHS D40+ 3 Star Balls

Actually the seamless balls have been generally OK. Certainly far better than DHS. Decent to play with and durable. I prefer Nittaku, but most of all would like a single standard. These new DHS balls are suppossed to be made of the same material as the good Nittaku 40+. I hope they also use...
  17. New era with DHS D40+ 3 Star Balls

Long delayed. Hope they are real.
  18. Opening Backhand flick

I have the same tendency. In my case, I think I am not as good at judging the amount of spin when it is in that angular direction. I think it may just require some focused practice with someone who can vary it a lot. A lot of learning is just trial and error. I actually did some work with...
  19. 10 years out of the game - Equipment?

I agree. Don't use speed glue on these new rubbers. They really aren't designed for it and I think it could mess them up.
