  1. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

Leftiness plays a role in Shinozuka's success. They don't use TTR in Japan but one of the things that became apparent from his match with Jorgic was that his serve is often hidden.
  2. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

BTW, in terms of logistics, isn't it good to see a tournament respect fairness to players to some degree in the scheduling and have the semis at the same time to avoid favoritism, even if it might mean less ticket revenue in theory?
  3. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

Probably the best offensive match I have ever seen Harimoto play and his reward is a loss. Amazing. Arguably losing game 1 after a 5-0 lead and using his timeout cost him. But that is splitting hairs in a close match. Congrats to Sora.
  4. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

The matches seem to be psychologically over since both of last year's finalists won game 1 to seize dominance. But of course, Harimoto and Tanigaki are fighters so...
  5. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

Harimoto looks like a snail when Matsushima starts attacking. I have to blame that on the differences in blade design lol.
  6. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

Hayata is getting really tight and frustrated. Kihara can take this. Yokoi, not so sure. PS: And after I write that, Kihara proceeds to lose the next 3 points....
  7. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

Regardless, the trend of game 2 doesn't bode well for the rest of the match for her.
  8. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

Kihara seems to have worked hard on replacing her flat smashing tendencies with loop driving tendencies.

  10. 1. Bundesliga Women 2025/2026

Kaufmann largely stayed away from it for sure and her serve and third ball was effective. They didn't show game 3, so the ending was off camera but it felt like Kaufmann studied what Nagasaki did and has an effective template. How well Sabine plays against lefties is going to be a topic going...
  11. WTT Contender Muscat-2026 (19- 24 January 2026)

I never found Speedysoft particularly spinny for a shortpip but it has been almost a decade.
  12. WTT Contender Muscat-2026 (19- 24 January 2026)

Maybe. As a double inverted hard sponge player, I struggle to find the weight of pimpled rubbers with thick sponge significant, I do understand your perspective, but I do think that the extra weight depends on the power of the sponge and it might not be as much as you think. And also, it is...
  13. WTT Contender Muscat-2026 (19- 24 January 2026)

"Significantly"? Regardless, what a player likes is individual, and that weight, whether significant or not, might make the racket feel better to her. But it is quite possible that it was a different rubber, just not different enough to trouble her opponent but different enough to make her...
  14. Why amateur players should avoid fast gear and where power really comes from in table tennis.

You also can't break at the ball and follow through and have exactly the same effect on the ball. That's my main point. A lot depends on what we define as follow through. If you define as follow through things that happen 1 second after you hit the ball, those things are unlikely to be part...
  15. Why amateur players should avoid fast gear and where power really comes from in table tennis.

Agreed. Honestly, for me, no spin balls are rhe best part of Zyre. The problem is that you need to get the ball into the sponge. If you are used to just getting grip, it doesnt go as well. But if you press down with a closed angle, miracles happen.
  16. 2026 Emperor's/Empress's Cup (aka All Japan) Jan 20-25, Doubles Jan 29-Feb 1

On the men's side it is pretty amazing that all the players seeded came through, especially Tanigaki in flying colors. As unlikely as such a result is, I would be happy for the young man if he wins it all, Japan needs someone who doesn't think playing on the national team is his birthright...
  17. 1. Bundesliga Women 2025/2026

It was interesting that Kaufmann had an easier time playing Winter than playing a chopper.
  18. 1. Bundesliga Women 2025/2026

Hopefully Winter Vs Kaufmann is played on the TV table, there was no Kaufmann-Byun to watch...
  19. Who are the players you enjoy watching the most? and least?

I like watching the pros, they all do things I could never imagine doing in 10,000 years. Fan Zhendong is my favorite to watch, a trite answer i know, but at his best he makes pros look like they play at normal speed and he is the only pro and that is saying a lot.
