  1. Matthew Syed Admits Cheating!

I even have my incident on tape. It was match point. The ball rolled into my court after the point was over but I thought it interfered with my concentration. I would have let it go but my opponent offered me the let and I took it. I don't feel guilty but it does creep into my mind once in a...
  2. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

It's what I do, sometimes it is arguing, sometimes it is just suggesting disagreement with a position. If you were following the thread, you will notice that he didn't respond to this post here where I had already conceded the main point and agreed with him. So maybe he just wanted to argue...

Two games out of 7 is not destruction. Destruction is no games at all.
  4. CNT Closed Training for WTTC 2017

This whole argument is very puzzling. LGY was not a choice, he was a qualifier.

You seem mostly okay in rally. Gotta tighten the serve and receive part. Usually, if you get level or take a small advantage on serve (get him to push and you open with a topspin) or if you topspin his serve, you usually come out ahead in the point. So mostly, serve short and receive with topspin.

From Larry Hodges blog: Righties versus Lefties Here’s an interesting interactive chartshowing that of the top 300 men and women in the world, 24.75% and 18.47% respectively are lefties, which are above the worldwide average for left-handedness which is about 10% (according to Wikipedia)...

Wu JingPing is staying in hopes of saving Xu Xin... really?
  8. Righties versus Lefties in Table Tennis

I actually good to the USATT 2000 level in part becauss my backhand play was much stronger than my forehand play and playees often did not realize it until it was too late and wven if they did, they often lacked the ability to execute the patterns of play that would exploit the issue. I think a...
  9. Righties versus Lefties in Table Tennis

Sometimes, we have to read what other people are writing to understand what the issue is.
  10. Righties versus Lefties in Table Tennis

The reason why is that there is an advantage from being left handed that is similar to the advantage that you have by using pips etc. Once you practice against it sufficiently, it goes away, but it doesn't prevent the lefties from performing better at lower levels and it doesn't prevent them...

If they can't beat Lin Gaoyuan, they should really be wondering what they are doing at the WTTC.

It only means he can't play Dima until semis if they both get there. That is valuable but doesn't solve anything else.
  13. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

That makes sense - I guess the bonus points should be enough too, I didn't realize his rating points were so close by themselves.
  14. ITTF Legends Tour 2017

This is the answer people don't realize. Rosskopf would give Joo or Ma Te a good game even in his current retirement age, I think he only got taken once by Evgeny in what is probably the best match Evgeny ever played.
  15. Astounding discovery

I like this analogy a lot but I would like to add that like many EJ analogies, it focuses almost exclusively on topspin while at higher level TT, things like being able to keep the ball short, attack short balls over the table or block/counter the opening topspin consistently are also things you...
  16. CNT Closed Training for WTTC 2017

Looks like Zhang Jike is on the up and up. Nothing is as exciting as seeing Zhang Jike fight.
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

He didn't beat any high ranked players and no top players are skipping the WTTC so it is unlikely.
  18. does anyone use dry powder for better grip?

The people I know who sweat a lot towel off every six points, wipe their hands on the table in between points, and use grip tape of they think they need to and change it regularly.
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Had a friend come into town this weekend. My home club still has no floor covering, so we went to the closest club (Princeton). I haven't played much and I think slowly, I will be playing less and less TT. I have to work on other parts of my life. Will still work with students and friends...
