  1. Dimitrij Ovtcharov happy with the new DHS ABS ball!

I think so. China has managed to reduce the cost of many thing - TT Balls are no exception, and they didn't come up with the intellectual property for this. The re-branded ones will be close enough - V40 is cheaper for example, and I expect others to be more expensive but close. And once the...
  2. Dimitrij Ovtcharov happy with the new DHS ABS ball!

Prices will exterminate the other balls. These balls are as cheap as 55 cents per ball.

Suds79, We are not professional athletes doing squats on a daily basis. If you want to play lower, do some exercises to develop quad strength (inner and outer) and get lower. If not, do your best and let it be by having a wider stance. People talk about getting lower as if it is the holy...
  4. Slow down a blade or speed up the rubbers?

Sure, I wouldn't start anyone out on a Gergely Carbon or a Sardius or even a Timo Boll ALC. But I think this misses the point of the original post and also misses some subtleties about blade rubber interaction. And there is some stuff that it is easy to be mislead about in the absence of video...
  5. Slow down a blade or speed up the rubbers?

Slow doesn't mean what you think it does. After all, I am not using traditional rubbers and I could very well be using a boosted version of H3 or Baracuda or what I am using right now. Slow means that the rubber is relatively linear and not so bouncy. I would be very good with speed glued...

  7. CHINA confirm players for the 2017 World Championship!

LGL already stated his terms in his speech: you had to seize the title, he was not going to give anyone a spot if they couldn't take it from those with a legacy of winning. What I don't understand is all the people who thought Xu Xin would not make the team, they seem to have totally...
  8. Outrageous chopping skills by Stephane Ouaiche!

I always shake my head at his stuff. At the level he plays, it's just another way of losing the point without admitting it.
  9. Slow down a blade or speed up the rubbers?

They are not as unique as you might think though you may be right that my considerations are more in tune with a certain level of play. Think of why the CNT use Chinese rubber on the forehand. Even when I have used Yasaka Extra and T80 for example, if I was healthy, I would prefer IF-ALC with...

The funny thing is that the backhand I modeled the most (Henzell) doesn't consistently do this. I just prefer to get a feel for the whip in the shot and go from there, though what you describe if done with whip is the highest level of the shot.

I am sure that I could find pictures in my shot selection that look precisely like that Archo, so it doesn't tell me anything. That said, if you want to look at a good backhand loop, here is a good one to model. It's not the only way to approach the shot, and probably not my preferred way, but...

I like to consider myself a good backhand topspin coach, but believe it or not, I have no clue what you are talking about even when you describe it in detail. As you get better, you realize that you are not always doing what you think you are doing. Bot in good and bad ways.
  13. Slow down a blade or speed up the rubbers?

For the original question, I have preferred faster or mid powered blades with slow rubbers to slow blades and fast rubbers. I think that rubbers are more critical for slowing the ball down than blades if you play a spin-oriented game.

I am going through the pain process of trying to reactivate my backhand. I used to have a good over the table backhand that has suffered from severe neglect. Tried to do it yesterday and almost lost matches using it. I will persevere and see where it gets me.

Maybe they will play Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong in the quarter finals this time... LOL.

Over thinking loop classification can drive you crazy but FWIW, I will share my own view... The first thing is that these loops are all about ball quality and about producing a certain kind of ball. IMO, some people like to teach every stroke as if it requires a separate technique. To me, all...

Sounds good. By the way, whip is not just about large racket head speed when it gets really advanced, but also about maximum racket head speed over short distances to control the ball, including decelerate it. Sometimes, people wonder why they sometimes notice the racket going back and forth...

Not necessarily down (back yes, down, maybe...), but you hit on the major point why I said you lack whip. There are ways of getting whip from an early backswing (you can start the whip from anywhere as long as you lag the backswing vs the forward swing even from the still position) but it is...

Here are the best videos on the general concept of whip that I know (since he taught it to me of course).
