Yes. The big guy is a popular forum guy called heavyspin who was around 2200+ back then and 2400 at his peak. He is pretty smart and has a good sense of humor (he did some Trump for President table tennis spoof videos). He and I describe him as 2400 skills and an athlete's heart in a 1000...

Too many CNT Euro clones as juniors but without the athleticism. The real issue right now is really that the best athletes go into more lucrative sports.

You are a semantics Nazi. Most sidespin serves appear as top to the receiver.

I don't consider myself handicapped but given my degree of joint damage, only someone who was truly just trying to cruel would act like they know where my damage is and how many disks are or aren't herniated. Let's put it another way: pro players retire if they have my physical condition.

Okay, now I know you are trolling. You don't think that the joints in my spine are inflamed as well?

I have global rheumatoid arthritis. Do a quick Google search on the disease. Even tendons in my wrists and elbow and shoulders are missing. Or you think that because I sometimes look like I can bend my body, it doesn't hurt every time I do it?

Maybe that they have worked with better teachers? And they have seen worse players explain stuff similarly?

Very interesting analysis and I appreciate it, not because it is right (even just looking at my warmup, you can see the quality of my stroke if you know what to look for) but because it gives me new ideas. I can't blame you for not watching the whole match as I rarely ever edit anything. I...

No one argued that ERT should specifically reveal his rating as anything other than one relevant information point - the question was to share aspects of his background that would inform his understanding of the subjects he is presenting and his approach to them, and playing level is one such...

As a prior head coach at the prestigious U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Schwartzberg's teaching style is based primarily on the theory that each individual should play the style that most suits the personality and abilities of the individual...

I didn't understand the French rating system so he tried to set me straight with examples. He has a right to demand that anyone who he listens to meet certain requirements. In my club some people go to the highest rated player or pick a player whose style they like - I don't take offense at...

BTW I saw Perry play in the U2400 finals at Nationals in 2014 I think (may have been 2013) vs a kid from PA. The kid from PA won a close match, but it was beautiful watching Perry's touch and his use of what I thought at the time were short pips. Just smart table tennis.

He could always point to Danny! That said , I was thinking too much about the grip - their styles were really really different and Boggan was just different from other people. Had the hitting influence of his father as well.

I personally think it is important to look at the amount of variety in good players, especially the Europeans at the USATT 2300 level and above. Lots of variety in grips and playing styles and just about everything that you can consider very wrong can be found in one good player or another.

The biggest difference IMO is that you have to discourage them from hitting the ball with technique that doesn't get optimal power. Adults are so in love with smacking the ball hard that even when they have the right physical tools, it can be hard to get them to spin the ball and play with a...

It's okay to mix up your personal issues with me with other things to buttress your opinions but let's get a few things straight when dealing with facts. My first post contains my criticism of ERT (I will either call him EmRatThich or ERT going forward). The focus was on Chinese secrets and...
