  5. Japan National Championships 2017

An American coach recommended to play him this way. Interesting.

The receiver usually has to take the ball off the bounce to make a good return but it is not necessarily true, The thing is that everyone has serve return strengths and weaknesses. Tom Lodziak recently wrote an article called the perfect serve and his point was that it doesn't matter what...

You don't have long arms, SchemeScC but dropping the ball short to the forehand side is a standard play and you need to have a few responses. Don't think in terms of right and wrong in table tennis. At your level, it is more about what you are taking and what you are giving up. People who can...
  8. Replacing Blade

Do you have the plies or specs for the Titanbeat? Hard to replace or suggest replacements for a blade that I have never used or don't know the specs for. The outer ply is especially important as well as the thickness and whether there are any composites.

If he gives you one, then I should get one too.

The blade is pretty soft - I moved M off the forehand and replaced it with M+. Not sure it was the right choice, but it feels more natural now. Might partly be a weight issue too as the handle and wings are the same as the KJH, but the head size is clearly smaller.

Carl doesn't control the goon squad - the goon squad just tends to like stuff that sounds like you need the secret handshake to get it. When you use scientific buzzwords around equipment, the goon squad thinks that you have that extra special national blue sponge stuff so they chase you down...
  12. Looping with thinner sponges

Depends on what you are trying to do. The real issue is that without sponge, the ball goes into the wood too easily and there is a maximum spin you can produce on thick contact shots and you may struggle to have the time/technique to control these thick contact shots with spin if the sponge is...

So I managed to put out more stuff today for Jirrex, Boogar, OSPH and pingpongholic. Now SchemeSC and Shuki are left. I should be able to get something out soon, will just enter some dialogue so I know what they want - Shuki I am already fairly sure what I will send, schemesc I will try to...
  15. Viscaria or butterfly zhang Jike?

Yes. But not so radically different that one shot goes out on one blade and the other shot stays on the table with another blade. Most players who can play with one of the Koto ALC blades can play almost as well with any of the others with the same specs unless they dislike something...
  16. Viscaria or butterfly zhang Jike?

EJs and blade collectors often make such statements. Are there any two blades you would consider the same with little difference between them? Handle and head shape can make a huge difference in personal comfort and feeling. But in how the blade actually plays, not that much.

It would be interesting to see your backhand drill because while being more bent forward may help, you don't approach the stroke the same way you approach your forehand. I suspect it is a combination of stiff wrist in the random drill combined with a bad contact point for your grip on the...

I guess it all depends on what the goal is. He is an advanced player with a mature technique trying to make minor technical changes in a way that he can practically apply them to his game. He is not like me for example who is spending time rebuilding his whole approach to the game.

There is a lot of core work in that stroke. Look carefully and you will see it. The wrist is probably also looser than you are giving it credit for and there is some forearm motion that is hard to see as well.
