  1. Shuki Development and Questions

You are supposed to bend your wrist backwards as if you are making the same racket angle that your backhand has naturally with your forehand. So you can contact the inside edge of the ball. The alternative is a hooking continue the spin stroke. Good luck with it, this issue still confuses me...
  2. F/h topspin practice

A video is worth a lot of words...
  3. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

To be fair, it still messes me up sometimes. So I use the word equator to describe where the rotation is fastest so I don't get as confused anymore.
  4. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

No. It is spinning on a vertical axis. The string around which the ball is spinning is the axis.
  5. Transition from a more traditional to a shallow grip

Your playing distance is a function of your technique. Since you enjoy playing full strokes and do so, I wouldn't be worried about it. Since your opponent is a blocker, you could gain a little by play closer to the table and taking the ball earlier to end points, but you would have to practice...
  6. The joy of winning a table tennis match!

Aruna already did that at the CW games in 2014 or so...
  7. Confused and intimidated by xiom rubbers :c

It all depends on what you are used to. I trained my forehand with Chinese rubber so I like Omega V Asia the best. When you brush, the arc is high and when you drive, the trajectory flattens out quickly. It is hard sponge so it requires more energy than most rubbers.
  8. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

So there is a lot of stuff in here that I didn't address. I never saw your original sidespin stroke. But it is important to be able to hit topspin because topspin dips and travels straight. Sidespin requires touch - you can't hit it hard - you need to rely on the incoming backspin. Corkscrew...
  9. Forehand problem & sessions

To get proper feedback, you almost always have to post video. Otherwise, you will only get good general advice.
  10. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

The main reason you couldn't get topspin was probably because you weren't swinging in a straight line, if I had to bet. That's the main thing I notice with people who have this problem - their strokes tend to be shallow and finish low (across the body) habitually. Again, you can treat most of...
  11. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

I would add that you would generate some "sidespin" if you contacted the ball late as well.
  12. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

Archo - he said axis, not equator. Listen to the man. IT's easy to fight over meaningless stuff.
  13. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

They should be trying to make the ball go to their target. They should be trying to produce a ball they can reliable read. How they produce that ball is up to them. IT's more likely to be pure topspin because they will not be facing heavy spin when starting out and that need to be able to aim...
  14. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

He gave that clinic in Philly once. Here's my take. I know people who hook the ball. IT's all about their stroke. You don't want your base stroke to be a hook. But a hook is not a corkscrew.
  15. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

IT's all about tradeoffs. The problem with pure topspin contact is where you make it and how to produce it when dealing with incoming heavy spin already on the ball. It's all semantics anyway. I just hope the posts are helping anyone understand spin avoidance.
  16. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

Shuki, these things are sometimes semantics. I posted two videos on the thread in a post, one with my corkscrew demo and the other with two higher level players. Are those two players hitting top or cork? Either is right, depending on what you are focusing on. Danny Seemiller Sr once said...
  17. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

There are a couple of things I think you are missing. First of all, corkscrew makes the ball dip just like topspin. It gives the ball a tight arc just like topspin does (see American football, with its relatively low level of spin). The main difference is that Topspin propels the ball forward...
  18. F/h topspin practice

Upload to youtube and post a link. You must have made a minimum of 5 posts to upload video.
  19. F/h topspin practice

You've received some good general advice from some great coaches, but as a rule, you need to provide some video to get proper feedback and advice. Especially if you are going to ask about something like contact point.
  20. "Corkscrew" vs side top loop

Yes, it is a good swing and 2000 is not that high a level anyways. IT doesn't mean you can use it properly in a match or you know how to time the ball with it and it doesn't mean it is a world class swing with 100% efficiency. IT just means that it is a swing that has nothing majorly wrong...
