TTEdge TT Debate Show ==================== Introducing our moderator, Breeeetttttt Claaaaarrke. .... Brett Clarke: Now, on to our next topic - Footwork! (NextLevel hides behind his chair...)
  2. Re-Building the BEAST

You move very well and you are leaving 200 pts of easy rating on the table with the love tapping. You just need to learn to spin the ball and let the opponent deal with it as opposed to love tapping to get those low hanging points. You should be over 1700, seriously.

Carl, I disagree with this though I understand where you are coming from: "If you had Evolution MX-P I might say to try that and give MX-P a slight edge. But, again, you don't. EL-P may work for your FH too but it is probably a bit too soft for the power of someone who predominantly drive...
  4. Re-Building the BEAST

How did your tournament go? The weight will be fine.

Human beings do not agree all the time. The page author requests people who find anything that is wrong to correct him. Thankfully, he did a lot of good work and it accords with most of my own experience.
  6. Rubbers for DHS Hurricane Long V

In general, if people have time to spend and want to understand blades and rubbers, this is a good website/blog. thoughtsontabletennis.wordpress.com/
  7. Rubbers for DHS Hurricane Long V

Everyone has a different contact depth and speed that generates the speed and spin they like to consistently generate. Power is a combination of speed and spin - some like to put more into spin, some like to put more into speed. Usually, if you use a soft rubber, at lower impact, you will get...

Understood. Some people today still use Sriver and Mark V and play well. Most of the rubber diversity is hype from manufacturers. You have used Tenergy 05 and Tenergy 64 for a while now. Usually, you may even have rubbers like Mark V so that you can figure out your blade before trying other...

Then you are too good a player to be asking these questions the way you ask them. You should know the rubbers you like and just use them. If you want to EJ, then have fun with the rubbers. But if you don't want to waste money, just buy the rubbers that you know you play well with and use them...
  10. Returning backspin

You have the whole side of the table to use your forehand on a short ball to your backhand so you can play a full stroke. You have to run around to the side of the table and then use your forehand over the table.
  11. Returning backspin

Hopper, The other thing that is interesting is whether the ball is short and high to your forehand side or short and high to your backhand side. On the backhand side, if you have the footwork, it is easier to loop over the table with your forehand. It just takes pivoting and imagination...
  12. Looking for a new rubber

I don't like your blade - classic ALC blades are a bit different and better IMO - but try EL-P - you may end up loving it on both sides. FX-P is very good as well. I hear that the sound o EL-P is really good. If you are a fan of sound from gluing days, you probably need to boost too.

I think that was the big deal with me in that as an aggressive hitter earlier in my career, I often punched loops over the table. I think that was what really cemented the bag technique - the seduction of being able to win the point with am aggressive early block. However, as I got better, loops...
  14. Returning backspin

Don't focus on the easy stuff per se. Just play weaker players. They will give you lots of practice.
  15. Butterfly just increased prices of the equipment

This makes me feel like my IQ is twice what it really is. Thank God for Evolution! (get it, get it?)
  16. Rubberquestions (no, their already bought!)

Most of the newest ESN offerings have pores in their sponge so the answer would be yes.

TareqPhoto, I know what I am doing and the reason why I am doing it. Lots of people read these kinds of posts and buy into the same mindset that you and the OP do, that there is something special about a blade and rubber pairing that requires you to match it like a jigsaw puzzle. I have...
  18. Good at practice, bad at matches..

You don't always need video to do it, though video can help because your view can be colored by subjective pressures during the match. My favorite example of this was playing a guy who liked to play me a lot because I always struggled with his serves. One match, he beat me 3-0 and I struggled...
  19. Rubbers for DHS Hurricane Long V

We have no clue what this guy's level is and nor his playing style and we want to recommend to him the best equipment for his blade - really? Guys, let's be honest - any good blade and any good rubber go together - the question is whether the combination fits your playing style.
