  1. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

Another good point. TT rubbers are consumables (although I do see some very worn sheets of T05 go for mad money on ebay sometimes). Resale value on hyper-expensive fashion items are determined by their original, inflated, sense of worth of course, but if you keep your watch wrapped in cotton...
  2. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

I agree with what you're saying here, but there's an extra wrinkle added to the fabric when you consider that TT is a sport, rather than (just?) a fashion. Obscenely expensive watches are hard (almost impossible) to justify in objective/practical terms, so we are only left with ostentation...
  3. Rule Approved! New colour rubbers as of 2020!

Tony is assuming the worst with this - that manufacturers will produce the same rubber model in multiple different colours. Which may happen, but it may not. They currently have the ability to do this with sponge colour (Xiom could make Vega Pro with sponge colours other than black, for...
  4. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

Interesting that Pitchford's profile now has him using T05 Hard and D05. If you have faith in the accuracy of this kind of thing: https://www.butterfly.co.jp/players/detail/pitchford-liam.html
  5. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

Oh. Well, I feel a bit silly now. Many apologies! At least we can all see how overly sensitive I am now.
  6. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

Some already have. But they don't have to pay for their rubber so their considerations are different to most of us. And that's without considering the difference in playing standard.
  7. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

Dan's review was excellent. He didn't mention the price at all, which I felt was something of a small red flag actually rather than "he's leaving it up to us to decide", because he's obviously prepared to give his opinion on the rubber in every other way. I wonder if he paid money for the...
  8. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

The price is horrible - I didn't pay full retail for my sheet and if I couldn't import it for less then I wouldn't have bothered. The only way the price increase makes any sense is if BTY's claim of increased durability means I can get much more use out of it. And even then I don't like the...
  9. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

I think it was Zeio who brought up the difficulty of conversion tables with this stuff. If ESN use Shore and BTY Asker scales, the measuring devices and processes are so different that there isn't a 1:1 conversion of any accuracy worth using. FWIW, Dignics 05 feels nowhere near 53. Much...
  10. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

I don't think anyone knows how to accurately compare the scales the different manufacturers use. Zeio had the most info about that if I recall. But I'd say it's close to 48 if my guess counts. I thought it would feel harder than it does - only slightly harder than T05 overall, so I guess the...
  11. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

Boll's FH - it was T05 Hard for a while. Then he got spotted using Tenergy 09C a few months ago.
  12. Butterfly Dignics 05 Rubber Review

It's very strong on shots that rely on fine contact - BH flick receives are incredible with it. Has a really special performance in that area. It's also a lot of fun in those mid-distance loop-loop rallies where you can react to a dropping ball with a bit more wrist action to generate the...

  14. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

Yes, exactly. I think it hasn't had the immediate impact locally here in the UK because the retail price isn't keen enough (may as well buy Tenergy), and it's not easy for the casual browser to shop around due to Butterfly's regional price fixing policy. The few people I know who have tried...
  15. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

That depends on how you define "value", obviously. At £43 a sheet it doesn't offer enough over the competition to justify the higher price IMO. At £25 it's excellent and undercuts the other options! Less than half the price of tenergy, and 1/3 of the price of dignics.
  16. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

Yeah, that does sound quite simple in the end. :D I wonder less about the marketing (which is flashy but ultimately the same thing as always - more, better, more, better etc) and more about the target audience. Will Dignics grow the consumer base? Or will it just take sales away from Tenergy...

  18. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

I'm saying it's a volatile situation - pros switch, it's hard to know why they do that, and even if we do know it's hard to say how much their reasoning applies to amateurs like ourselves. We can pick on Boll's specific case, or we could take Kenta (who is listed as D05 both sides), or back to...
  19. New Butterfly rubber "Dignics 05" 2019

Except he's been using Tenergy 09C on FH in recent weeks. And it's interesting that Dignics 09C has just appeared on the LARC. So it's a dynamic situation.
