  1. I lost my spark for playing TT

Also, there is a former 2100 player who coaches, I say former as this was his level a few decades ago, he coaches a couple players you know... one went from 1400 to club 1900 level in jz system... one went from 2000 plus to 1700ish over the last decade. Both play 3x a week. Sometimes it IS the...
  2. I lost my spark for playing TT

@Jslick89 There ARE a couple Cali 1500 level players out there who I have heard did some or several lessons with some local players. I have little faith that either of these 2 would be able to develop a player based on what I see of them playing and their poor decisions, and limited...
  3. I lost my spark for playing TT

Duke, do you have any experience teaching ur gf or wife how to drive a car with a manual shift transmission? The data on this is overwhelming. You may be one of the few to beat the very small percentage odds, but who knows?
  4. Backhand rubbers? Is d09c too much for a beginner-intermediate player?

Gozo, at your level AND up to TEN levels more, if you can spin the ball slow and heavy either deep or shallow, you will be such a boss. That stuff throws the visual and timing so off even many 2300 level (top 5 percent of all players) will be under 50 percent countering it.
  5. Backhand rubbers? Is d09c too much for a beginner-intermediate player?

Any haters of Tibhar MX-P after a month old think it is bad can send their used up worthless sheets of MX-P to Sergey Tsos @theRealTsos and he will gladly pay international postage... He will slap that worn out dead mx-p on his Ovtcharov Carbon and spin like no tomorrow.

  7. Backhand rubbers? Is d09c too much for a beginner-intermediate player?

GM3, I would agree, spin wins.
  8. I lost my spark for playing TT

JSlick, Yes, it would be good that you get another couple years to get more fundamentally sound, but you would need to really be aware of what makes things happen biomechanically, how spin and path work, footwork, opponent stance shots, tactical adjustments and a ton more. You would have some...
  9. I lost my spark for playing TT

You did improve that much in a year and that is good. You are a very young adult learning player and those will grow well initially. The next 200 to 300 points will be easy as well, but a lot more work and time. When you get to a 1700 to 1800 Cali level, then may hit a wall, many walls and...
  10. I lost my spark for playing TT

You see me in sandles 90 percent of the time because of knee mcl injury... sandles remove a lot of the stress on my mcl tendons. The other 10 percent I forgot the shoes so I just deal with it best I can.
  11. I lost my spark for playing TT

I agree with NL... unless you are very patient and capable, it would only end in catastrophic harm to you.
  12. Intermediate Player - Paddle Change after a Decade!

OP, You are a candidate for Tibhar Aurus... since this is a very old rubber, you can find it at a reasonable cost. I get it from tt11 for under 40 usd a sheet.
  13. Backhand rubbers? Is d09c too much for a beginner-intermediate player?

I would be inclined to strongly agree with your view on this... for the primary reasons that you know when you strike it right and you are forced to use good leverage to play strong shots... maybe a third is you feel the ball. However, there is no single absolute answer in tt. Some ways that...
  14. Backhand rubbers? Is d09c too much for a beginner-intermediate player?

You should have been around in the speed glue days... a player do a bad glue job, their bat plays like crap and they NOT a happy camper.
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Hi Jeff, If you didn't notice, in the last 12 months I have had 4 grade 2 mcl tears among two knees and numerous grade 1 tears. Why do I like sandles when my knees are tore up from the floor up? With regular shoes, you plant and tourque... there is a lot of friction in the plant to the floor...

Maybe we run into a certain Korean J Pen 2000ish dude down in Pleasantown... name of Hanjo.
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I am likely scheduling my next trouble making mission early or mid April. Will likely post some surprise mission pics in late March on a different mission where I will be out of pocket.

JeffM, Try playing goof off Matches occasionally wearing SANDLES. WHY? it will cause you to pay attention to how you stand, spread feet. And push off. That will carry over to slippery floor performance.
  19. I lost my spark for playing TT

On anther note, adults need a unit of measure. If a competent coach cannot raise the level of a 1000 level player a significant amount (we would say a few hundred rating points) in a reasonable time (like say an hour a week for 1 to 1.5 years) then in 99 percent of situations it is the coach's...
  20. I lost my spark for playing TT

Jslick, You ask a fair question here. I been helping players when I was 1900s and upper 2000s.... but that would not be an absolute. My ability is to coach adult learners. I got that from learning and being able too SEE and SHOW biomechanics, all the strokes, how to create spin, how to see...
