Will either of hayata and Ito make it to the qtrs? Unlikely but conceivable to have three WJNT on that side of qtrs. Sadly for them, the fourth Chinese player is quite strong.
Ito has really good luck this time. Drawn against Kuai Man who's arguably the easiest for her to beat in the group stage, had her chances but blew them. As group second seed she's now drawn against Shi Xunyao instead of SYS/WMY/WYD/CXT. I have a feeling SXY will be a much tougher opponent than KM but this quarters position was really Ito's to lose.

How did CYY and Kao make it out of their groups? CYY was in a 3-way tie and won 1 less set than Quek as well as the head-to-head against him (Thakkar won the least sets so he should be out). Kao was also in a 3-way tie and won the same number of sets as Gerassimenko but lost the head-to-head against him (Desai won the least sets so he should be out).

I find it interesting that Hina would have played Odo and Harimoto would have played Cho had they won their groups. They got bad matchups but reasonably the best they might have hoped for. I don't see Hina winning though but Harimoto couldn't have drawn a better opponent regardless of result.

OJS didn't stand a chance against HYZ, what a difference 22 months makes
Funny enough, I don't think HYZ did anything special. His style is bare bones topspin, and wet behind the ears compared to the slickness and dexterity in Xu Xin and Wang Chuqin's game. He reminds me of Liu Yebo who had a similar style with a more range-y physique, but who unfortunately has fallen by the wayside amidst stuff competition. OJS didn't play at his best but HYZ played ah-okay. A true test for HYZ would be someone who takes the fight to him from the get go, where every point is more or less a slugfest.

Harimoto wasn’t considered a test?

Chien Tung-Chuan 2-0 -> 2-3 KM (11, 9, -5, -7, -7)
G3 37, 57, 58 endline edge for KM, 511
G4 13, 43, 46, 56, 58, 78 TO for KM, 711
G5 02 TO for CTC, 03 CTC served off the table, 06, 26, 28, 38, 310, 710, 711
Shaky KM is lucky to have CTC fall apart on her own, often described as 想贏怕輸 in mainland China.

She has always done decently against teammates. The real challenge is when it really counts - defending your quarter against foreign players, which she has not satisfied. Overrated SYB mopped the floor with her at ATTC 2024.

Uda 3-2 AJH (-8, 10, 7, -9, 11)
Farewell gift for Tasei. Uda the savior of JNT...

Matsushima 0-3 LYJ (-11, -3, -1)
Ugly AF as always.

Matsushima is actually the worst offender in terms of stats for 2024.
Togami is similarly bad.
Shinozuka is not bad.
Tanaka is actually decent.
Uda is best overall but he's played only 1 CNT player (and won).
Yoshiyama is still better than Matsushima and Togami with his 2 wins out of 3 over CNT players.
Harimoto has played double the MS matches (even higher if counting MT) of some of his teammates.

Whoever wins between Shinozuka and Matsushima will become the new "civil war king".

Shi Xunyao 0-3 Ito (-3, -5, -2)
The use of Shi Xunyao to counter Kim Kum Yong has backfired...

KNY 2-3 Harimoto (-2, 4, -8, 4, -6)
G5 30 TO for Harimoto, 40, 43 TO for KNY, 46, 56, 57, 67, 611 sideline edge for Harimoto
Something has been off for Kinoshita's camp after ATTC 2024.

MS R16
LGY 1-3 Harimoto (-6, 10, -9, -9)
Conspiracy-theorist mode
Harimoto: I finished 2nd in group on purpose to get my man in knock-out.

WS R16
Hayata 2-3 CXT
G1 05, 55, 56, 66, 86, 88, 108, 109, 119
Same issue for CXT as with the last encounter despite going back to the DHS DJ40+, definitely exacerbated by the pressure from Ito creaming Shi Xunyao.
G2 52, 54, 64, 65, 95, 98 TO for Hayata, 99, 109, 1010, 1210
G3 25, 45 TO for CXT, 48, 58, 511
G4 20, 24, 34, 37, 47, 411
G5 10, 13, 33, 34, 54, 55, 65, 69, 79, 710, 810, 811
Hayata still with 0 wins over CNT players in the LA 2028 cycle.

An Jaehyun vs Yukiya Uda is the match of the day so far.
Many amazing rallies and both of them have monstrous forehands.
There was one blistering big topspin rally at the end that Uda won to save the match. Can't ask for a better spot to have one of those.
