Both are in the cypress family. "American hinoki" is an advertising term for Port Orford Cedar, should be a little stiffer, harder, and denser than the Japanese variants but otherwise should have very similar playing characteristics.

Try: www.wood-database.com if you want to get more technical.

Cheers,

That's right. Part of the reason why Kiso is so mystical haha.

I think it is about the weather and geo location..... Because the Japanese version is more soft and dense.... But still the same like us or euro version

I have tried PP Moby 1 ply kiso hinoki and Sanwei h10 1 ply american cypress.

Both have the same characteristics,
the difference is, I feel vibration with american hinoki. And on kiso, minimal.

They are extreme slow or control on soft touches, extreme fast on hard hits.

I like american hinoki more because kiso hinoki is so springy and bouncy soemtimes on short game.

What I dont like about american hinoki is too heavy. 240 grams total setup.

Actually, I am looking for a 90 gram american hinoki.
