Can that even work ? Isn't it the whole point of carbon to increase speed ? What would the structure of a slow ZLC be like , a 3+2 ?

carbon can increase speed, but another advantage is that the sweet spot is also larger.

A friend of mine who is a good chopper still uses the apex def blade until now. He can chop against loops with ease despite the zlc layers. Also, there are composite def blades in the market.

Yeah, Stiga Def Pro is a great blade, it has carbon layers, it ain’t quick by any means!! Carbon can be used for Fast / Slow / mid speed Blades!! Stiga also has the Allround Carbon Classic.
I remember when I first saw the marketing for the Tamca 5000, one of the main points was increased sweet spot size!!
