I have played with my forehand so much that I can loop fast down the line and cross court from anywhere. There is much more range and power in the forehand; it is just a matter of controlling it. Most people are good at controlling with their backhand since the stroke is smaller and more straightforward. When people become good at controlling a technique, they are able to put more power into it.
Which you play is a matter of preference. In my opinion, the forehand has much more potential(range and power) and is much better in the long term.
