Building a custom TT paddle as a beginner

Hello. I am a TT beginner and for a while I've been trying to build myself a custom paddle. I really want to play a defensive style. I found two rubber : Friendship 729 FX Super Soft 1.5mm (forehand) and Juic Neo-Anti 1.5mm (backhand). I've also found a blade called Neottec Kanji Def. I wonder if this setup is beginner friendly and last quite long ( one year hopefully, I only play 3 hours a week). Also I would like to know if I should spend my money on this paddle.

Thanks a lot!;)

Playing any sort of Anti should be a conscious choice, in my opinion. Don't get Anti if you aren't sure if it fits your playstyle. It's going to be very hard using Anti a bit further behind the table for instance, because most Anti take out spin and speed.

That being said, Super FX is an excellent budget- and beginner-friendly option. It's one of those typical examples of "you get from the rubber what you put into it"
That means you have to really generate a stroke. Makes it great for developing proper strokes!

1.5mm is not weird if you want to play very defensively. It will give you a lot of feeling, too which can be really helpful in your development.

Depending on what you used before, this setup can feel extremely slow. Then again, that is the idea if you want to play defensive.

Thank you a lot for the tip! Can you please recommend me other defensive back hand rubbers that I can find on Table tennis 11?
Thanks a bunch!

Neottec Hinomi-M 1.5mm Red (assuming you will get Friendship 729 fx in black).

Hinomi-M is not exactly an anti-rubber but it has good control. It is very good for its price.

Thanks! I've read some reviews about it and saw that it is a bit too slow and doesn't last a lot so it isn't quite fitting for me.

You want a defensive setup, but not slow rubber? I don't quite understand that.

What do you aspire to play like? Is there a particular pro player who plays the style you want to play?
Why defense, is it because it's something you like? Or are you not confident about your attacking skills?
What have you been playing with up until now? And how did that work out? Any specific problems or mismatches in the equipment you've used so far?

There's so many questions, mostly because you are outspoken about playing defense. A starting blade for allround development is a lot easier to advise as the strokes are pretty much all conventional and demanding the same from the equipment.
When you go defense, there's chopping, blocking, at the table, far behind, defense on both sides or the "modern defense" where you develop a deadly counter attack too.
If this is indeed the road you want to go, check out OOAK too, there's a ton of defensive styles and experts there.

Well I didn't mean I don't want a slow rubber but I've read that Neottec Hinomi-M is very very slow and doesn't last a lot of time. I want to play defensive because I haven't tried it yet and I think I'm better at chopping and blocking than other skills. Since I started playing TT I played allround and now I want to change to defensive. I think I will keep Juic neo-anti as my backhand even though I've never played an anti before. That is so because I'm willing to change my play style.
