Currently using the new world ranking system Dimitrij Ovtcharov is world number 2. He recently won the World Cup and German Open, will this put Dima at world number 1 when the new rankings come out in January? Now world rankings is based on how far you reach in a competition...

Very likely DO will. It is not difficult to estimate the players' ranking points under new system as only two tournaments are left this year, Swedish Open and Grand Finals, and the best 8 results count. Only FZD has chance to surpass DO.
Here are the calculation for Jan 2018 ranking:
FZD will have 6 results (11700) + Swedish Open + Grand Finals.
DO will have best 7 results (14250) + Grand Finals.
If DO reaches the semifinal of Grand Finals, DO will be WR #1 no matter how good results FZD gets.
If DO stops at the quarterfinal of Grand Finals, DO will be WR #1 if FZD cannot win both Swedish and Grand Finals.
If DO loses at the first round of Grand Finals, FZD will be WR #1 if he reaches finals of both Swedish Open and Grand Finals and wins at least one.
I think it is not difficult for DO to reach the semifinal.
ML's 7 results 13040 are fixed as he will not play any more this year. TB and LGY will be #3 and #4; XX and Koki Niwa will be #5 and #6 if they find their form in Swedish Open and Grand Finals. If Simon Gauzy can reach the final of Grand Finals, he will be above ML; while the chance is very low. So ML shall be able to remain top 10 or even top 5 lol.
