I’m no equipment junkie, I know my stuff but recently I’ve been thinking about using tacky rubbers. I use an inner carbon blade with xiom rubbers, you can see on my account. It’s decent but certainly nothing special.

I play in England but if I was to go off of USATT ratings then I would say I would be between 2000-2300 but then again I’m not sure. I want to know if I will be strong enough to use tacky/hard rubbers as a 14 year old who regularly goes to the gym and tries to be active. I just wonder if I could activate the sponge especially on an inner carbon blade where power generation isn’t exactly simple.

If you guys could help me out it would be much appreciated 🙏🙏🙏

I started off with a Stiga Allround Evolution and 729 Super FX on both sides, a little bit older than you are, and I could make them click and get pace out of them eventually. I played about 25h/wk and PT 5h/wk by the time I was an adult. I don't think you need to train that much, though.

I doubt you're anywhere close to 2300 if you're not aware of your capabilities, but even if you were a 1300 player, I believe you could use unboosted tacky rubbers with a hard sponge. Perhaps pick the softest sponge option for a start just for more feel.

If you would like to use tacky rubbers, then your go-to will be DHS Hurricane 3 Neo. Some people will tell you not to boost, but if you don't want to boost, you can use a hybrid rubber like Butterfly Dignics 09c or if you want to stick to Xiom, you can try Xiom Jekyll and Hyde C series, they have hardness in 52.5, 55, and 57.5. If you plan to boost, then you can start by using 1-2 layers of Haifu Seamoon on DHS Hurricane 3 Neo Blue Sponge, and you can start with 39° so you can see how your strength plays with this rubber and see how it plays compared to your Xiom rubbers. Some batches with Hurricane can have a lot of tackiness and some can be semi tacky. Butterfly Dignics 09c is nowhere near as tacky as Hurricane 3, but it may be easier for you use to and you don't need to boost it. I've never used J&H C52.5, but I'll link someone's review on the C series so you get an idea of it.

Thanks for the feedback 🙏🙏🙏 I’m basing usatt rating off of comparisons, I’ve seen much technically worse 14 year olds over 2000 rating than me. Then again, it would be interesting in time to do tournaments over there and see how I compare
