Heat will weaken the glue bond. Apply heat (after removing rubbers), gently pry loose using a sharp, thin blade; exert as little force as possible.

Make sure surface is smooth and clean before regluing.

Here is one version:


Der_Echte uses a heat gun to warm the handle. I would trust that more than boiling the handle.

In posts 117 and 118 on this page, Der_Echte explains how he removes handles using the heat gun and a putty knife:

Before he used the heat gun the results were a little more messy. With the heat gun he removed handles cleanly.
