matsushima is infuriating to watch. truckloads of natural talent but just doesnt give a fuck in doubles. at 10 8 in the game 2 he tried to flick the receive and missed; which is perfectly normal; mistakes happen.

but instead of going for the safer shot at 10-9 he seems to want to prove to himself that he can do it and flicks it nonchalantly again and...missed. exact same flick, exact same mistake. they lost 10-12 after that

😡its a wonder miwa doesnt kick his arse😡
Not the first day.

Matsushima told the press that he wasn't good at doubles once after losing at Zennihon Takkyu 2019 or 202X, with Miwa as his XD partner. Quite shocking coming from a true lefty. I posted about this over at MyTT a few years ago.

See if I can look up the news...

Togami had at least two occasions in solid control during the whole rally. One is at 19th shot, Togami took the chance to go really Lin's wide forehand, Lin had to recover with a high arc loop which lead to Togami redirected topspin to Lin's wide backhand a few shots later and forced Lin to lob.
Most people would assume Togami would win the rally at this time, and they usually would be right.
However, Lin executed two very difficult deep lobs and followed by a vicious signature backhand loop. This loop was so deep it jammed Togami a little bit so he couldn't launch another full swing counter, in stead, he did a slow soft loop which was a good decision as Lin was far away from the table and a short ball may cause him off balance.
Again, however, Lin did something very few pros can do as well as he can: he stepped forward, backhand ripped the ball with such a pace and spin that the ball dived after it bounced off the table leaving a pouncing Togami swinging the air and falling on the floor.

Some fans still criticize Togami attacking recklessly. Actually he has improved a lot and the fact he went to toe to toe with LSD in the last play showed just that. In order to beat top Chinese, you need Tomo's lightning speed or relentless attacking style. Togami has the latter. If he keeps improving, he is hopeful.
One key aspect to note not only in that last point but also other rallies is that Togami often moves away at the start of the loop to loop then tries to move in for the kill, but he doesn't change his pace and power to throw Lin off beforehand causing the returning ball being too difficult to kill. Not to mention Lin's amazing long range play, crazy how coach Ueda or Togami himself never once thought of a drop shot or soft block after pushing Lin away from the table

The commentators and viewers are having so much fun in the comment section over at Miguvideo and Weibo. LOL

高傲少爷松岛,卑微侍女美和,这比赛有意思! (Arrogant young master Matsushima and humble maid Miwa, this match is interesting!)

往事吹乱思绪 咪咕主持人都在疑惑,这俩人难道是日后乒协强行上架的吗。
还说松岛反正到处溜达,不理人。

(Even the Migu hosts were wondering if these two were forced to pair up by JTTA.
They also said Matsushima was just wandering around, ignoring Miwa.
)

张本美和啊,松岛辉空鸟都不鸟你为啥还要配队啊,真的笑死我了 (Hey, Harimoto Miwa, Matsushima Sora doesn't even care about you, why do you still want to team up? It really makes me laugh to death)

I think Kao is injured from his match against Truls.
correct
he was carrying injury into the match due to the constant scheduling
sadly, that is just life and you can't ask for holiday or work place injury compensation

Sora Matsushima vs Patrick Franziska 3-1 (-8,9,6,8)

G2 2:5, 8:5, 8:7, 10:7, 10:9, 11:9 (Matsushima switched to a punch serve, which won him the point. Franziska complained that the toss was non-vertical and he was most likely correct, but no TTR)

Matsushima showed some growth imo. Instead of giving up in G2, he hung in there and managed to win G2, which changed the momentum.

sora has a problem with illegal serves. he, noshad and xu yingbin are some of the worst offenders after wang chuqin
