It is interesting that FZD always beats ML in bo5 games and reversely ML always beats FZD in bo7 games. I could barely remember last time when ML beat FZD in team event.

In this game ML made so many unforced errors with his FH, and he was very uncomfortable with FZD's reverse pendulum serve.

Now I really hope that these games will be uploaded to Youtube.

Is sponge the correct translation? He obviously changed blades aswell. Maybe it’s a term for racket too?

Yes, in recent three years, FZD beat ML in all team events (bo5).
According to Tianjin news before the match, ML has not fully recovered from his back injury which explains the poor FH.

I know the he and Xu Xin tried that, but that was very short-lived and I guess around or even before 2015.

I'm still wondering why only Ma Long plays with a softer DHS H3 rubber on his backhand and no one else.

Not sure if this counts as source of proper information, but if you take a look at ProTT's website, you can see all kind of different H3 BH rubbers...
