Thirteen-year-old Miku MATSUSHIMA entered both the U15 and U19 events. By the time she reached the U15 final, she had already played 10 matches (9 wins and 1 loss) and looked visibly exhausted in the final. Nevertheless, she fought all the way to deuce in the deciding game, and I have great respect for her fighting spirit.
Her older brother, Sora MATSUSHIMA, won the MS title at China Smash 2026, which was held around the same time. I had hoped that Miku would also win her event, making it a double celebration for the Matsushima family.
Incidentally, since players have to compete in so many matches over a short period, this tournament uses a seven-point game format:
"Youth Smash will play to 7 pts, sudden death at 6:6 for G1-G6, and 2-pt difference at 5:5 for G7, changing ends when one side scores 4 pts first."
