Hello everyone!

I am an early-intermediate looking to get a few lessons to get advice+feedback on technique+form (maybe monthly or so)

Anyone have advice, information, suggestions on where to get reasonably priced coaches?

Not sure how well online coaches work but also open to them (might post some vids here later for the forum advice too!)

You could also try NYISC: http://www.indoorsportsny.com/html/index.html

That stands for New York Indoor Sports Club. It is a bit hard to get to if you are not driving. But the coaches are top notch and the price is less than Manhattan for top quality coaches who come originally from China. Shao Yu, Liu Juan and Wang Xinyue are all excellent coaches.

Yeah, this seems like a good option and might be worth a day pass for the coaching too

Also, for early-intermediate, how much does the level of the coach matter in your opinions?

Like is it worth getting coaching from an Olympian ($80-100/hr) vs maybe a 2100+ rated player ($50-80)

Like I mentioned, looking to make sure my technique is in an okay spot.
As an ex professional coach myself ( but in different sports ) I can tell that sometimes high achievements doesn’t mean that you are good in coaching amateurs or in coaching particularly. I have trained tt with pro young guys that was playing in bundesliga but I didn’t saw a lot of desire in them to teach regular mortals they just used to do it for a living without much of enjoyment. So I prefer my 2100+ coach 🫡

Have you had personal lessons from here? Any one you would recommend?

Romain Lorentz.

Romain Lorentz who Dr Evil is recommending would be top notch.

I think, at Ping Pod, getting a good coach is something that matters. There are a bunch of people listed in the categories of beginner and intermediate level coaches who I know and like but who I would never consider getting coaching from. And there are a few that still may be fine.

I also feel like, with TT, there are some 2100 level players who make excellent coaches. But the ball quality you are going to get, the feed quality, the quality of multiball, from a coach who is 2500+ who IS A REAL COACH, is totally different and WELL WORTH IT.

That is different than a 2500+ PLAYER who is coaching but is not really into coaching.

At SPiN (wearespin.com) Matthew Suchy is a great coach. Not sure what it costs to get coaching at SPiN these days. Paul David and Alex Peres used to coach at SPiN. Not sure if they still do or where they coach now. Those guys are also excellent coaches.

Wang Chen's club (https://www.wangchentt..com/) used to have some good coaches. Probably still does.

Keven (Can) Wang used to coach there well over a decade ago and then, for a while he was coaching at SPiN. He is a good coach. Wu Yue (Jennifer Wu) is also a really good coach.

In NYC I may be a little out of date since I have not looked at coaching in years. :)

I will say, Paul David was my coach for years. I really like how he works with people.

Also, you will work harder than you ever thought possible with a solid high level coach.

This is great information! I'll do my due diligence

@Dr Evil I had looked at Romain Lorentz + other coaches and it's nice to get some direct feedback. Thanks

Where are you staying in NYC? Manhattan? Queens? Some of the clubs in NYC are rather spread out. If you are willing to travel to Princeton NJ, there are many MLTT professional players there who coach. When are you coming as well because there is a camp occuring run by 3-4 players of the Princeton Revolution team at the end of the month. Also, what style do you play? It would be best to pick a coach who plays a similar style to you. Also do you want a technical coach or a high level training partner? All of these questions are important to know beforehand before you select a coach.
If you want, send me a PM and I will give you brutally honest opions about where to go and whom you should take lessons from.

Juggling work and distance will make Princeton too far for me .

Definitely agree with the coach style + technical / training partner distinction. I am going to have to make an excel sheet with all these considerations with my coaching needs !!

I appreciate the offer and will take you on it once I settle on 1-2 names. Thanks!
