Yes, that may be true.

What are some lower hanging fruit?

No drill is a waste of time... Continue, have fun... Get lower, I mean wider, you'll adapt to incoming ball position better, and the stroke will be different/better... Don't hold balls in the non-playing hand, at least initially... Try to make quality ball, I'm sure you recognize how that feels in your body, most importantly; secondary in the ball quality...

Maybe start to combine drills to a longer chain/rally:

Your Partner serves short backspin
You push long
He opens up with a loop
You counterdrive it
Then open rally.

Vary the placements, openups on fh or bh or drive it longline

I think you're right. When I was practicing I was thinking there must be lower hanging fruit to go after.

I feel somewhat balanced across the other shots you mentioned. So I dont know what other shot to really work on.

Previously i posted video of me working on receive...
I follow the logic of my coach now that I'm also coaching. It worked with me and the rest of his athletes, so that's what I support.

1 - Fh/bh drives.

2 - Long bh push.

3 - Fh topspin on drives, so no open ups, and both wing block at the same time.

4 - Long fh push and fh open up (topspin on long push).

5 - Short pushes.

6 - Bh topspin on drives.

7 - Bh open ups.

8 - Basic flicks.

9 - Mid distance topspin rally and fishing/smashing. (I've learned the hard way that it's important...)

10 - Finally the counters and punches.

That's my bible regarding teaching progress. This could be achieved in 3~5 years for the entire roster depending on the athlete. And it's so long, 5 years at some cases, because of the last parts being the ones that are further apart in learning, counters, flicks, etc... Up to -7 could be taught in a few months, to maybe a year and a half at most. The rest can wait until there's some sense of stability and spin.

Too many time your body goes backwards, one of your legs is often not touching the ground at the hand of your stroke (mainly resulting from the first point), too wide movement. You should begin with another drill. Close to the table, work on bloc spins. It will compell you to go forward and to make compact movements.

I feel like I already block a lot though. I was trying to develop a new technique.

TB, I have to say, I really want to watch match videos on how you beat 2000 usatt level players.

this kid was probably 1700~1800 at this time (12 years old)
he is now 2150 (14 years old)
Well like I said multiple times in the past, the rating I am referencing is for our local league. I don't know if it's calibrated to the same level you are thinking of.

I already posted some sample video against Victor, so you can see how I play there. But, here is a video against a player rated 2011 in our LOCAL LEAGUE. When he has a few strong weeks, he even goes up to 2050 or higher. I don't know what he would be rated in your part of the world. I would say I win about 20-25% of our matches.

It's very useless to speak about the rating. Even in France, 1300 is not the same level if you're in Paris or in Limoges. I can't imagine the disparities of level for a same rating in the US.

On your video, your going backwards too many times, and, if you make some footworks effort when the ball is far from you, you don't do that effort when the ball is closer. I have the same flaw.

Actually I can do the counterloop shot quite well from distance. Its the close to table counter that i find much harder
Totally logical, since you have less time to adjust.

Counterspin should be practiced at this distance (first seconds of the video), you hit the ball before the highest of its trajectory :

Can you see how close to the table she is ?

You swing, jump, move right, all at the same time. And you hit too late.

You need to move into position, be solid on your legs, then hit using shoulder rotation, and with a forward motion.
I know what you mean, I also feel like I'm not really in position. But i'm so close to the table and the ball is coming so fast with spin and the ball is jumping out of place.
