Oh a 45 degree angle isn't what I'd consider closed at all so yeah good that it's working for you. I also don't think 40/41 H3 is at all appropriate for where your game is at right now but everyone has their own opinions on equipment. I know for sure none of the coaches I know would start a beginner on that hard of Hurricane.
Yeah maybe not, but it feels more closed than it is. I think the followthrough has a lot to do with it. The contact is going a lot more forward.

The expert opinions from people I've played and who have watched me play is that because I'm able to use the sponge and blade to a good level it's fine and it's a good rubber, but there are also disadvantages to it that can show up at a more elite level where pace is a premium and you can get rushed out of position. They just warned me about it because I might run into it if I start playing closer to State level, they didn't say it's even relevant for me right now.

Some of these are ex semi-pro players who switched from H3 to D09c because they can't consistently use it in the higher divisions with how little they train right now (1-2 sessions a week). They usually ask me how much I train and they think my volume is enough to be able to use it with my physicality and because my game level isn't yet at a point where top speed is a premium.

I did get recommended a tensor on the backhand, and I just have objectively worse results with them because they're too touchy for me in some scenarios, which is inherently just a skill issue on my part, but it is what it is for now.
